GTR (Great Northern) trainee driver training location

Thanks both! Does it tend to be residential in the week (for example) or just turn up each day? Different companies seem to do different things!

GTR (Great Northern) trainee driver training location

Can anyone tell me where the classroom training for GN would be held? It would be for Cambridge depot but I'm guessing they have a central training centre. Many thanks!

Suddenly feeling “off”/getting cold feet about taking job as a trainee driver for northern rail

Oh no, definitely not! There are people I work with who are spotters and know a lot about all kinds of trains but then there are people like me who know a lot about the train type I work on thanks to training and experience but nothing about any others! :D You'll be made welcome even if you...

Suddenly feeling “off”/getting cold feet about taking job as a trainee driver for northern rail

In that case you'd probably love it! There's are plenty of people who apply that have no knowledge of trains at all or an enthusiast so don't worry about that. With the tests, just practice what they will send you. You don't need to be clever to pass them you just need to understand them and...

Suddenly feeling “off”/getting cold feet about taking job as a trainee driver for northern rail

I'd ask yourself how much you like working around people and talking to customers etc. If you are happy to work alone and have the concentration then go for it. However, if you are a people person i would say don't write off the railway but try a Train Manager/Senior Conductor role instead. And...

    A career as a signaller

Thats what i wondered but it makes no sense as they say you have to be within 60 mins of the location to be able to apply. So if it was actually at say, Three Horseshoes or March and you lived 40 mins south of Ely then you wouldn't be in the right distance but you would be from the location...

    A career as a signaller

Does anyone know anything about a signalling box at Ely, Cambs? The trainee grade 2 jobs were advertised for specifically Ely with a postcode which is near the station but i have no idea where it is based as i thought it was controlled by Cambridge box.

    A career as a signaller

Ely is advertised as a location for trainee signallers at the moment but does anyone know where in Ely it is? I was under the impression that it was controlled by Cambridge

New to the industry wanting to progress

There are trainee driver roles advertised with a few TOC's at the moment. I would just get applying now, you won't stand a better chance going via another rail job (I'd argue you prob stand a worse chance sometimes). Apply when you see them as you never know when they will be advertised again.

LNER Customer Service Roles - Recruitment General Discussion

Speak to them and ask them for extra help with this but before the interview. They would have to do something to help you due to the Equality Act 2010 i would think.

    LNER New Starter - Questions

Just on the 2nd questions, yes it can be very stressful as situations happen all the time and you can't plan for a lot of them. You'll have days where all seems to be going well and then it all goes horribly wrong! And sleep is something you will lose especially on early shifts. The first of...

Career Change - Teacher to EMR Senior Conductor?

There is no pay progression as such. Every guard at a depot is on the same wage after trainee unless they are an instructor/coach too but most depots only have a few of these depending on how big. Hopefully you'll get a yearly inflation pay rise but the last few years have just been a battle...

    Greater Anglia - Trainee Mainline/Depot Driver - Various (12/04/24)

Hi all. Is the assessment day for GA definitely split over two still? Makes no mention of it in the invite to go. Also, does anyone have a contact telephone number for them?

    Bridge plate info

Thought I'd ask the experts! Anyone know where this is from or any info on it? I can see it's British Railways Midlands but struggling to see anything else like it. I'm assuming it's a bridge plate. Thanks in advance

    Decision-making

Is it going to be the right career for you if you are only interested in the pay packet? You don't sound like driving a train is a job you actually want to do, maybe i'm wrong? As someone from a travel background, aviation is 100% not a good move at the moment. However, you should chase your...
