Or open calls can become restricted calls, which can be extremely aggravating. A textbook example of making a product or service worse in order to extract more money from existing customers.
I think you're overthinking the term "choose". It neatly encapsulates that there are exceptions to the buy before boarding principle when the non-purchase of a ticket before boarding wasn't the passenger's choice.
I have explained it, I have said choosing to buy on board is more expensive than...
I'm not asking for more words, I'm suggesting they should be more precise.
The bit about no Railcard discounts crops up in the sentence about "if your fare is already more than £10". They could have easily written it so it applies unambiguously to any situation where you choose not to buy...
I'm not saying the minimum fare regime is not within the NRCoT, I'm saying "minimum fare" and "full, undiscounted fare" are different.
This poster appears to try to say the former is the latter, which it isn't. Having introduced that unnecessary confusion, it then does a terrible job of trying...
Which it can't possibly be, of course, for several reasons already discussed. But, I guess, they're gambling the kind of person who would actually go to court rather than pay this 'minimum fare' is probably not the sort of passenger who would find themselves being asked to pay it to begin with.
I wish!
An Off-peak Outboundary Travelcard from Maidenhead with a Network Railcard costs £17.
If you want to start in London and make a day trip to Maidenhead, you may well want to buy an Off-peak Inboundary Travelcard plus an off-peak day return from Boundary Zone 6 to Maidenhead. At the...
And it really is all circumstances.
Not long after I moved to London I boarded a packed Cannon St circular train at London Bridge only to find that a social media gymnast had decided to hook his feet and toes around the horizontal handrail in the vestibule above the door and hang from it like...
"Something that doesn't look right" is an incredibly broad category of possible things to be inviting the general public to trouble you about, isn't it?

Frankly I suspect many of the people on my Elizabeth Line train this morning would see that advert and think golly, that's the very...
[Image showing an LNER advert which reads: Warning. Passengers up north may say hello]
I saw this on an Elizabeth Line train and just wondered if any forum members based up north could confirm whether or not, as a corollary to this, LNER is running adverts on local trains in the north of...
So are we saying this is the fare setter's fault for enabling period returns for smartcard fulfilment?
We know pricing managers follow this forum - it'll be interesting to see if this issue is fixed as quickly as fare anomalies tend to be?
You may not like or agree with my terminology but the minimum time a journey planner must allow between timetabled arrival at St Pancras and timetabled departure from Kings Cross is 31 minutes, exactly as I said originally and others have pointed out to you. That was exactly my point and it's...
Correct.
It is. Have you done both of these transfers?
So what? It's about how long it might reasonably take compared with how much time journey planners must allow. It is perfectly feasible to step off the Thameslink at St Pancras and step on a train at Kings Cross 5 or 6 minutes later. I...
I'll probably never get over how many people seem to take the view that the MCTs are about right when they're so inconsistent. You would think everybody would agree that they need to be reviewed.
It doesn't matter if you want MCTs to be really tight or you want them to have plenty of padding...
But we're always being told the average passenger just buys a ticket that comes with an itinerary and sticks to the itinerary, in which case it isn't complicated at all.
It's also very rare for it not to be simple to deduce from journey planner results that for the off-peak fare, you can take...
I was in York during the Christmas Market the Christmas before last, since such markets have been raised as an example of when Anytime fares are likely to be charged at weekends. Not only were all the trains rammed, so were the roads.
The whole city centre was gridlocked. Is the government...
It's an entitlement in the NRCoT and (by cross-reference) the TOC's passenger charter. No obligation to go to the Ombudsman.
My case was over about £3 so I wouldn't have wasted the court's time. The court might have been doing something useful instead. I'll waste GWR's time if they choose to...
Though I have about four pages of correspondence from GWR insisting their delay wasn't material because my intended connection did not run as scheduled so I couldn't have caught it anyway, and therefore I had to claim from the other operator (which conveniently has a DR30 scheme so wouldn't have...
Slightly troubling that the restriction text purports to restrict the passenger to "specified trains only". Specified by whom? I assume these can be sold by ticket offices, dumb TVMs and BRFares without an itinerary?
Yes, yet at the same time, try buying an off-peak day single Reading to Eynsford from a GWR machine at Oxford. I have. It could not be done. Couldn't do it from Reading either when I tried the next day. In fact there's a large number of off-peak fares missing from GWR's TVMs. Then just the other...
Yeah taking a photo is best, I think. I asked to retain a Halifax to Leeds ticket at Leeds and the chap wanted to know why. I said I might need it for delay repay. He said everything on that line has run on time all day. I said yes but I'm going to London now and it remains to be seen if I'll...
