I very nearly ground to a halt in a HST this October near Dalnacardoch climbing to Drumochter. It wouldn’t even accept notch 1 of power. Lost speed from 60 all the way down to 15mph before conditions allowed traction to be regained. Happens every autumn.
You’re not expected to be dehydrated at all but the diagrams don’t allow for regular toilet breaks. Mine today was over 5hours before an allocated break. There was just enough time 3hours in to nip to the toilet when changing ends but if I did require any longer then it would mean a delay. Which...
Probably. Ultimately, when it’s resolved, it’ll be a lower figure than it should be. Look at the last few years. Happy (ish) to accept well, well below inflation pay adjustment.
Absolutely. The unions and staff will settle for less the longer this drags on and the government know that. That's why the last few pay deals have gone to the wire. Works out cheaper.
It’s clear that, presently, the passengers or the state of the railway aren’t important.
Yes. Managed decline. The absolute truth is nobody in power actually cares. Hardly any of them got there on merit and hard work. Anyone who believes otherwise is deluded. It’ll be fun seeing how well that works, in all corners of the public sector. Less demand on the railway makes it easier to...
Aye. We’ve just booked the bus as the last train home from Edinburgh is 1855 this Sunday. This really shouldn’t be allowed to happen. Silence from senior management/government regarding informing the public with talks progress, if there is any. Have to ask, why? Is this what “they” want?
It’s heartbreaking to see this but it’s also a bit odd. To reach 73mph from the cross over or section signal, including a running brake test, isn’t hanging about. Even in a HST.
Currently on the ‘new’ sleeper for my 3rd time. I’ve struggled to sleep in the past but I’ve always been over the bogies. This Room is in the middle of the coach so it was looking promising.
I’m afraid the Ride is terrible. Noisy clack and bang from the suspension, if there is any. It’s Like...
Nicely put. I also embarked on a “zero to hero” course with a large training school in 2006. Funded mostly from an enormous bank loan. Qualified mid 2008 with all high grades and first time passes in all flight tests. I won’t bore you with the torture I endured trying to get a job but I was...
Sorry but you can’t possibly say the outcome would’ve been worse in a DMU. A 170 or 158 wouldn’t have derailed in the way the HST did, due to many factors but specifically the coupling type, modern bogie retention, performance of the life guards etc.
Since you specifically mention the Carmont...
Let’s start with the Absolutely pointless taxis for train crew every day because of idiotic, lazy rostering. Massive wastage of resources, money and extra emissions.
