The guard should’ve given a written authority to travel. I would’ve given my name, depot and work phone number with a dated and signed note explaining the situation.
After your training at the academy you have an opportunity to take leave when you want during your driving hours with an instructor. However, once you pass out you are allocated 4 weeks leave. One of which is a 2 week block. You then have 9 floating days subject to cover. Depending on depot...
As long as it’s not an excuse to drive down wages I’m for it. Having said that, I certainly couldn’t have done the job at 18. I feel it would be best if those put on apprenticeships were made to be a guard for a year before moving into the driving grade.
Do you have any info on Eurostar’s recruitment and assessment process? I’ve heard they have their own psychometrics tests even though they only take on qualified drivers?
I found the tests fairly straightforward. The two hand coordination test with the joy sticks was a bit tricky however, mainly because there’s no way to practise it before. It’s being put into a talent pool and waiting for months on end with no start date after passing I find the most difficult...
I had application in process for around 8 months on my first application and then the vacancy was unfortunately withdrawn. Second time round I had application in process for 2 months then invited to interview. A month later I had my psychometrics but I’ve been application on hold for the past 6...
I’ve passed the DMI and psychometrics but was put on hold for a medical and start date. I know there has been at least two driver courses running since I passed but unfortunately I’m still waiting. I know a few others are too from the vacancy last year.
Be aware of the possibility of passing the DMI and psychometrics to enhanced standard, only to be put into a talent pool and ending up “washing out” of the pool with no job offer after waiting for months. Railway recruitment can be incredibly frustrating and a very slow process.
The amount of hoops you have to jump through for a driving job does make you wonder how certain people are offered within a few weeks of passing whereas others are kept waiting for months/years in talent pools. I really hope it is to do with individual assessment scores rather than a candidate’s...
Thanks for the reply mate are you still on hold too? I was told there are no places left on the May course. Fingers crossed something will come up in the next few months.
I applied back in August for an internal only vacancy. Passed the DMI and psychometrics in November but have been on hold since. Has anyone been offered a start date for Manchester? I’ve been told that there are no driver courses planned until Autumn which is worrying as my application could...
I passed everything in the end now just waiting for a medical/start date. The A3 sheets are quite different to the computer practice tool. I think I did about 8 or 9 lines too and passed at enhanced. I found the actual test was much easier than the computer tool.
