Leeds Bradford Airport Parkway Business Case and Engineering Report

Maybe if you built HS4 from Ilkey to Manchester Airport. And a motorway too. Your American investors in Bradford engineering companies only want to know the airport code they fly to. If it’s not in the same city, they aren’t interested. There is a limit to how far you can stretch out ‘near...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

For many years (at least 18) there has been a rumour around Huddersfield that the subway will be extended to the car park and warehouse out the back. 'The dirty carpark' locally. Maybe this person was just been hopeful. 33 years ago the theatre was going to be in the warehouse. 12 years...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Not if the Dewsbury work is all prep on the embankment and then the Thornhill works are plumbing it all in. Bringing the baker viaduct into use. All the plant will still be in the right place. It is a year away so plenty of time to be ready. (But this project is full of surprises)

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

There was a load of plant in the space where the new Mossley station when I drove past last week (Tuesday 4th I think). I didn't what they were doing. 1786480737 See this from further up the thread. So I'm presuming June 2027 ?? And all in one go? As the current middle line...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Agreed. The west side is just a couple of years ahead. There also just seem to be things happening - compounds in use when you drive past. (like in 2020, you'd see stuff for the Huddersfield to Westown scheme - a drilling rig here, somebody measuring a bridge, some trees chopped, an access...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I think the straightening south west of Dewsbury has always been in the plans. There is a left and then right bend as you approach Dewsbury from Ravensthorpe on the existing tracks. If they didn't fix the wiggle then you'd come off Baker Viaduct and have a right-left-right band. At...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Went past again and had time for pictures. There are 6 brackets on south side of Huddersfield viaduct. Note above the picture This one is bigger, and to the left (west) of the Fitzwilliam street arch. Same one again, but from underneath. 2 of this style. Further east they...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I think the drainage is down the middle. Some of the views might be distorted by zoom lenses. Given the lack of signal gantries everywhere, there will have to be some some signal posts in between the tracks too. Signals not shown on the consultation plans.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Yes. Stand outside Hoults Wine Merchants on viaduct street and look up. (pop inside too, lovely shop. And sorry I didn’t stop to take pictures) I think on the north side, from the plans, the masts are going to stand in the floor next to the viaduct. It’s waste land and car park rather than...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Actually we are in the second weekend of sleeper laying. Some were down last Sunday on 12th July. There are also at least 5 electrification mast brackets on the South side of Huddersfield viaduct. Just metal frames bolted to the stone work. (I drove past on Thursday)

What does the railway do with under 18s in the event of severe disruption?

I agree that happens. I've seen it this year.

Discussion regarding electric train provision on newly electrified Transpennine Route

I suspect Mirfield will just become the natural interchange for the stopper services. Because everything will be a same or opposite platform interchange. Brighouse (or any Calder Valley) to Wakefield - just change at Mirfield.

Just to clarify that you mean Berry Brow near Manchester. Between Ashton-under-lyne and Manchester victoria. Which is nowhere near Berry Brow station, near Huddersfied. The line speed increases on this line were done several years ago. I think some footpath level crossings were removed.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I think looking at Bradley to Huddersfield works. The main bits were drainage, moving the track, new junction and the Whitacre street Bridge (next to Deighton station). But piling for masts has happened where possible. A long gap after the track work for signalling to be done. I don't...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Deighton - Whitacre Street The north side looks to have a lot of work, but no tops on the abutment yet. The South side doesn't look started yet. The plans show the new bridge is a bit wider, so does the car park need to come up to level first...

Weaver Network colours appearing on Trans Pennine route

Metro red has been around at least 35 years? I'm too young to know when it started.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

To summarise the videos. On Track with Tim and Sarah Bell. I presume both filmed on Sunday. So I'm not sure what happened today (Monday). The John William street span is in, and you can see all the holes now now bolts in them. The supporting scaffolding underneath all gone. (Sorry, I've...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

So the front beam of the new bridge span has been lifted in today. St John's road in Huddersfield. There was a lot of banging going on, and it was still supported by the crane while I was there. I'm guessing there are a lot of bits to fit in the right hole, and maybe a load of bolts to go...
