Hmmm just out of curiosity well if that is the case & they have not gotten any proof of ID how do they gain confidence they are chasing the correct person? Have slightly different scenario but equally if they don't hear back from which ever contact they were given - what do they do ?
Appreciate the response ! Emailed tfl right away - so far no response. They were considering perhaps sending a cheque covering cost of fare and the 80£ penalty - to assist tfl covering any cost of resolving / inconvenience ?
Hello all, sorry to pester ... But Any thoughts on what approach might be taken if the letter is "returned as undelivered" to tfl or gets chucked away by the owners/ new ppl who will by this point no doubt have moved into the temporary (hotel) address provided ?
So if a hotel/accommodation address is indeed provided. But the letter arrived after Check out date of the guest and is either binned by hotel/next guests or send back to the sender as "undelivered"? What the approach normally be ?
Thank you - just to clear up the matter. This has not been at the airport / train station. Just a central London / touristy spot.
A note has been made of their place of birth (obvs outside of UK) so perhaps that would somewhat make their "faux pas" more understandable.
Also could you please...
I hear what you saying. But they would like to be able come back / visit and worried it might stay on the record and cause complications for visa or what's not. And yes of coourse got them their own oyster right away.
Also got in touch with the temp accommodation they were staying in and they said they tend send any letters not belonging to current residents back to sender ...what happens if the tfl gets their letter back ?
But again they didn't understand that was an important difference. A) all oyster cards look same on on of the sides b) they used other ppl oysters before when visiting in the past - and it didn't make much difference as they would just top it up and return when done.
Hence why
One as far as I'm aware. Sorry my language might have been confusing - was meant to say the realised too late on the day it was a different card. And didn't think it 'd make any difference.
Thank you! To be fair - they would get whatever penalty would be required together somehow and pay it. But under no circumstances they can afford a record....so that is most definitely their utmost concerns.
well they may have given address of the aparthotel they were staying and their maiden name (recently married so might have done so out of shock as not used to new name ). So ended up with a mish-mash of temp address and maiden name. And now absolutely confused and don't know what to do to...
....sorry @js1000 , do you know by chance what happens if ppl ignore letters ? Or miss letters as they provided temporary accommodation address which they won't be able to have access to by the time letter arrives?
Thank you very much -Think you captured the essence of it - they actuality very law abiding and jerk to cooperate! ... Should tfl desire to go to court- with them not being residing in the U.K. -Would they need to be present ?
