That may be the intended rule but, if so, what are people to do if they live north of Inverness or in parts of Sicily where you can't reach a border in a calendar day ?
Have you seen that rule clearly stated anywhere ?
I agree with that. In fact on my usual French and Italian trips the actual Interrail pass is typically inspected on 1 in 10-20 trips. The vast majority of times only the reservation is checked and you don't even need a valid pass.
That's a more liberal meaning of 'in practice' than I had in...
Are you sure about that?
I don't know; it may be correct. However the T&Cs say "A Global Pass is usually valid for travel within your country of residence during one outbound journey and one inbound journey.", so it allows one of each but not two outbound.
They talk about journeys rather...
Half way through my second 4 in 8 of the fortnight. Did Ashington this morning and Manchester to York via Castleford last week. Both accepted with no question. I think both are intended to be covered, but some of the industry maps are just wrong/out of date.
I don't think that's right. However, nothing below makes any difference to the conclusion of this thread, namely that the heating effect of friction in normal operation is tiny compared to the thermal gain.
There are three things:-
When two uneven surfaces contact each other vertically some...
I've asked her. She confirms that that's not her expertise. She actually is, and was introduced by C4 as, a professor of sustainable and resilient CITIES, not transport. She wasn't expecting the question and got interrupted in her answer.
Regardless of that, I don't think the comments above...
I travelled today from Taunton to Teignmouth. With Storm Ingrid hitting the South West, disruption was likely, but the announcement that the 09:00 GWR departure for Paignton would not stop at Teignmouth was not made until the train was actually arriving at the platform. In the many previous...
I frequent both of those trains and I have not seen them leave Paddington (in ordinary circumstances) "full and standing". You can dispute all you like, but that is true.
I have seen them extremely full (which is what you said), yes, but not "F&S" which is what I said.
I'm sure you'll get more specific replies, but I travel frequently from Taunton to Paddington and back on 'off-peak' trains (basically 10:00-16:00 departures) and I can't recall the last time one arrived/left 'full and standing' except for cases of disruption.
Why not just reserve a seat to...
I recently used my Android phone to purchase a single metro/RER ticket to transfer from the Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon. The info on the forum's various posts is confusing (mainly because the process itself is confusing) and so this post describes how it worked and my understanding of the...
We didn't need to use it since we left right after breakfast and lunched in Basel, but I directed two pairs of American travellers too it and they were impressed ... especially with it vending beer !
Yes, exactly, the French station. It looked to me like it was the standard station for the...
So, with thanks to those who helped me above and for the benefit of others who may refer to this thread, I successfully managed to return from Milan to London in one day using both:-
The former Gotthard route and tunnel through the Gotthard Pass (instead of using the Gotthard Base Tunnel), and...
I just came back from Italy and the reverse (Strasbourg to Lille) leg on Friday. Reservations were open almost exactly four months prior to our travel dates. As you say, a lot later than Eurostar.
We used InterRail, so I don't know about cost. It's InOui (eligible for InterRail) rather than...
Just back from our Interrail to Italy and back.
Our Reggio Calabria to Bari run was on the day of the (first) national strike for Gaza which was (luckily for us) completely ignored as far as I could see.
The journey was uneventful, but very pleasant in the sunshine especially the very long...
