I've just been in Berlin for 5 days. I'd assumed transactions would be mainly via cards but had taken some euros with me. In practice, while most places would accept cards, we found a strong preference for cash among e.g. taxi drivers, restaurants, cafes - they said it was because of the...
Funnily enough I tried to buy a single from Winchester to Basingstoke yesterday on my phone via the new SWR app - again, "no tickets available for this journey". Managed it perfectly well on my laptop / SWR website.
I think I got an email from SWR saying there were teething problems on...
Have now receive replies from helpful humans in SWR customer services. After supplying information about my computer set-up, I was informed that my laptop ReCAPTCHA problem is a "known issue" and that it is being worked on, however with no target date for resolution. Meantime various possible...
Many thanks for these replies and apologies for delay in acknowledging - I didn't realise the thread had been moved.
I'll try the different options and see how I get on.
I have emailed SWR Customer Services, got an automated acknowledgement but no substantive reply yet.
Thanks again...
Apologies if this is the wrong forum but ...
I am having problems logging in to my SWR account (which I've had problem-free for many years).
I've become used to having to use ReCAPTCHA to log in - again no problems, until now. The ReCAPTCHA device has disappeared from my log-in screen but...
My experience is like Jupiter's - whose location is Dorset so therefore I assume a SWR user? I live in Hampshire and SWR had a long 'blitz' on senior railcard tickets - the gate wouldn't open, you had to show the gateline attendant your senior railcard before being allowed through. More...
Thank you everyone for the information and advice. I shall be clearer what to do if it happens again!
The latest situation is:
I've been notified that I will receive a full (whole ticket) refund of my WIN-WAT return fare.
I've been notified that I will receive a full refund of my taxi fare...
I'd appreciate any advice people could give me following my experience of disruption on Wed 11th December.
I travelled from Winchester to London Waterloo on a Super Off Peak Return (with Senior RailCard). The outward journey was uneventful.
I arrived at Waterloo at around 21.15 to catch the...
Not sure if this has been mentioned upthread - but one of the features I miss from the 'old' app is the ability to pin a journey, very useful for keeping abreast of the progress being made by a delayed train. Unless someone's discovered this feature on the 'new improved' app ?!?
Agree with all...
Here we are safely back after our Assisted trip.
The outward journey went very well.
As mentioned by Kath123, on the first leg Winchester --> Basingstoke, we were 'popped into' First as the train was very full.
At Basingstoke our train to Honiton was significantly delayed. The rather...
Just coming back in to say I have booked Assistance for this trip, I booked by phone and it seemed to take a long time but very nice staff and all is sorted.
Depending on how we get on on the outward journey, we may or may not book Assistance for the return journey.
I will report back...
Here is our itinerary:
Winchester --> Basingstoke (should be OK)
Basingstoke --> Honiton (this is the worrying element, we don't have much flexibility as need to arrive around 2.30pm.)
Very helpful and reassuring comments so far, if anyone has anything to add I'll be grateful.
Many thanks for the replies so far - and thanks to Admin for moving my post into the correct section, I did wonder ...
Will return tomorrow and post details of the journey.
I travel frequently on SWR trains but have never looked to reserve a seat.
In a few weeks time I am planning to travel by train with a friend, she has had serious health problems for over a year but is now on the mend and we are planning a convalescent few days by the seaside.
My friend's...
I've asked for this thread to be re-opened for an update from Winchester. The pre-booked taxis system is being cancelled and the former 'hackney' taxi company are returning to the front of the station. This has been reported in the local Hampshire Chronicle, I've struggled to provide a link...
I posted about this recently in another thread which was closed before I had a chance to post an update.
I've been extremely irritated and delayed over the past few weeks by my ticket being rejected at barriers including Waterloo and Winchester, and having to show it to gateline staff who...
These reports that TIL staff identify themselves as "conducting a survey" make an interesting connection with my report of local gatelines rejecting Senior Railcard tickets until staff have checked the railcard: one member of SWR staff gave as the explanation for this that SWR were "conducting...
I think the gateline staff I spoke to said the gates were set up specifically to check Senior railcards but I'm not 100% sure.
In reply to the query re was it an official statement or just rumour - the gateline staff implied official policy but again not 100% sure.
I'm travelling from...
