Forgive me for perhaps being obtuse but this seems like an instruction to wait and not a stop order.

It's one journey from Reading to Liverpool, it doesn't matter that the tickets were booked separately. Submit all tickets in a claim to Crosscountry.

You have to change it within the basket, once you pay the ability to change reservation is lost although the customer service is great and they may be able to do it for you after the event if you forget.
