Introduction of European Entry-Exit Scheme (EES)

Yes, I went through Bergamo on Monday this week, and it was an interesting experience. The EES machines were all out of use. When I landed, there were passengers from two non-Schengen arrivals ahead of mine. There were plenty of border staff placing arriving passengers into separate holding...

Morning. Does anyone know if there will be any Class 455 workings today? I’ll be in that part of the world anyway.

London Gatwick to London Victoria - possible to buy Crawley to London Victoria ticket?

Off topic to the OP but somewhat related to this quote, is a Luton to Reading off-peak day single valid to start a journey from Luton Airport Parkway? Assuming it is, will there be difficulty using it at the barriers?

Bike thefts at stations effectively 'decriminalised' as BTP to no longer investigate

It's a shame that the BTP won't pursue a bike theft, even when you can provide very clear detail that would minimise the amount of time needed to investigate. I had the misfortune of having my bike stolen from a station bike rack a few months ago, and it has certainly discouraged me from...

    GWR Class 165/166 Turbo Diagrams

Yes, I was working at Dawlish station on that day when the CIS announced it as a three-car. I ended up keeping a copy of the RTT log at the time. Seems it was only 5 minutes late into Paddington! I believe it also ran the return run in passenger service.

Trivia: Unusual / Interesting Calling Patterns?

The 0600 1C55 from Paddington to Penzance via Bristol is a bit of an odd one. Calls at Bridgwater, misses Totnes, then when in Cornwall it calls at the likes of Saltash, St Germans and Lostwithiel, but doesn’t stop at Par.

How many Class 08/09s are still in service?

I often see one at the Arriva traincare depot in Bristol, plus there was one at the sidings near Goonbarrow signal box on the Newquay line when I went through earlier this year.

Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

I don't want anyone to suffer undue inconvenience when using the railway, whether that be the time taken to add a railcard to a booking, or accidentally purchasing a ticket that has been wrongly discounted automatically and having to be inconvenienced to apply for a refund and repurchase. But...

Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

Well my point was that the inconvenience of spending a few extra seconds of time for adding the railcard discount manually is significantly less than the inconvenience caused when it applies the discount automatically after the railcard has expired.

Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

I can see why some would want the convenience of booking tickets without needing to pick the railcard discount each time, but it really isn't an inconvenience. If I forget to add the railcard, then all that means is I overpay for my journey. However, if my railcard expires but is still...

Gatwick Airport to Reading - Sunday 4th Feb

Thank you both. Excellent information and advice. Yes, I do have a railcard. I've managed to find a split ticket via Clapham and on SWR to Reading, for pretty much the same price as my current ticket. I'll therefore claim the refund and buy this alternative ticket, and at least I am no worse...

Hi All. I am looking for some help and advice on what to do. A few days ago, I bought a Gatwick Airport to Reading single, route via Gomshall. This is for travel on Sunday 4th February. I now see that the GWR website is saying that there is planned engineering work between Reading and North...
