Road traffic passing over a level crossing is not an obstruction for the purpose of accepting a train on AB. I worked Starbeck as a relief signaller but can't remember whether the barriers had to he lowered to permit a Knaresborough bound train to access the platform ( which woukd have been...
Ah that explains why the down platform ends are being extended at each end - work started some months ago but then stopped - which seemed odd if the loop was being removed and platform moved out.
In fairness Avanti uniform is very eye catching without being hi vis. That said it still seems odd that the old standard ' no red, yellow or green uniform colours' got dropped so easily. I guess Virgin Trains wouldn't budge on that.
Understood - but guards managed to identify station staff for nearly 200 years without needing hi vis! Of course on pre hi vis days operational railway staff wore a clearly identifiable uniform with peaked cap which is much smarter than the hi vis worn today. You even see on train survey team...
Indeed - hi vis can be an unnecessary distraction. The more people wear it the less effective it is but of course it must be worn when it contributes to personal safety as part of the protection hierarchy.
I understood the viaduct line was taken out of use as it had a very severe speed restriction due to curvature which would also prevent use of modern stock unless the line were singled.
If all track circuits are working correctly there is no need for a driver to confirm train complete . If not- - you are unluckyand its degraded working!
If there is a main aspect signal or handsignaller all that is required is the line is clear to 183 m beyond . If the main aspect is...
Clipped and scotched for a facing move (not padlocked unless the rule has recently changed). A passenger train may not proceed on the authority of Shunt signal without signaller's permission- unless that's changed since I retired!
Apologies I've re-read the OP's rules and the junction has to be visible from the platforms - also I'd assumed the junction would be beyond and diverging but converging is OK as well - so Shipley's five platforms count in any direction! (I was a relief signalman based at Shipley).
