Unfortunately with winter traffic levels increasing year on year, the DRB is now often too small for the traffic on offer, even in the traditionally quieter winter months - especially when pushchairs, bikes, wheelchairs etc are all taken in to account.
It is also suffering a bit from old age...
One thing I have wondered with the franchising is what happens to services which operate wholly outside West Yorkshire, or are tendered by another authority, if those services are currently run from a large depot in West Yorkshire?
I'm thinking Keighley. Transdev operate the 72 and 64 around...
And with no existing plan, funds or schedule to overhaul it - so if it does get overhauled it will be a long way in the future - there are already a number of projects underway which will need to be completed first.
This apparently has been suggested by the industry but rejected by the DfT as it cost too much money.
I think you are slightly overestimating the power the RDG has in all this decision making nowadays.
What's this obsession nowadays with every single sign saying "Welcome to....."?
This sign just says "Welcome to Leeds". But you are already in Leeds. This is outside the station and surely those going to the station will be catching a train out of Leeds? So why are you being welcomed to Leeds...
At the moment there are multiple bus operators in West Yorkshire alone, sometimes more than one on the same route. Some are large, some are small. Many of the routes are commercial services with no subsidy or control from the combined authority. For these bus operators to accept rail passengers...
I use RST Online regularly and have experienced no issues at all. It's a bit outdated and clunky in appearance at times, but I find it perfectly useable.
Lonsdale Buses seem to be having some issues. A post from Dalesbus the other day said the 580 between Settle and Skipton was dropping out services Monday to Friday and running a reduced service until further notice.
Edit. A post on "Settle Chat" facebook group suggests the reduction in the 580...
I understand the plan is that 47715 will be spending the main bulk of the season at the KWVR to provide large diesel loco cover due to the absence of both 20031 and 37075. D0226 is also unavailable.
D9520 is not suited to the larger trains, so a larger diesel loco is required on site.
Repairs...
About which bit?
There are only 3 steam engines available for traffic : 52044, 41241 and 78022. So one of those three has to run.
Generally speaking the week before Easter is quieter than the week after Easter, so as 52044 is a 4 coach engine, but the other two are 5, it is better to run the...
There is a trial of a Midweek First Class Upgrade of £20 between Manchester and York and vv. Only available on the Liverpool- Newcastle services, only available to buy on board (like the weekend upgrade) but only after 0900 Mon to Fri.
This may work for you.
Just for clarity, I am NOT referring to the 2018 document from Metro.
I am referring to the May 2025 Terms of Use of M Cards published on the M-Card website at:
https://www.m-card.co.uk/terms-of-use/
May 2025 seems to be most up to date set of Terms and Conditions for M Cards and is the...
14.3 says: "Unless Condition 14.1 applies, if you are using a Season Ticket, daily Zonal Ticket, or another area based Ticket such as a concessionary pass, ranger, or rover, in conjunction with another Ticket and the last station at which one Ticket is valid and the first station that the other...
It was, and they still do...
Condition 4.6 of the M-Card Terms state: "4.6. If your train journey destination is outside of West Yorkshire, You need to buy a ticket for the onward journey to your destination from the last station in West Yorkshire where your train stops. Failure to buy a ticket...

I managed to get 2 x non-safeguarded Privs in a shared cabin on the Caledonian Sleeper last year. I couldn't do it online but the ticket office managed it for easily. Luckily the clerk had booked sleepers before and knew what he was doing.
It won't just be the bid teams overwhelmed.
The Northern contract especially is a massive undertaking with a lot to do and deliver in a relatively short timescale. The teams responsible for delivering the end result, both in the supplier and the TOC itself, will be under a lot of pressure with...
This winter's timetables are, to be fair, a bit of a c*ck up.
However there is currently work underway to significantly simplify timetables from 28th March 2026 onwards in to 3 core timetables. This should ensure every single "normal" operating day starts at the same time. Finishing time will...
