Dunno where the best place to put this question is, but I noticed some sections in Fife have HST speed limit boards - do the 158/170s currently use those or is it just the HSTs, and would the new BEMU trains be expected to use them?
Interesting, as the initial maps and EIA plans showed the electrification stopping east before it got to the station, now seems be going further west towards Lochgelly.
The 30mph section is about 400m, even doubling that length to account for trains slowing down/speeding up, and then increasing it to 45mph, would be a saving of about 20 seconds (and only for trains that don't stop at Kinghorn). Guess the question is, could that (plus electrification...
If two car trains are stopping at a point on the platform that is far away from the footbridge, surely you just move the stopping board so they aren't using all the platform? :s
There was a planning application in 2022 which was decided as EIA not required, the plans show the southern limit being the bridge over the A921 at Seafield https://planning.fife.gov.uk/online/caseDetails.do?caseType=Application&keyVal=REA8VMHF1AL00 - dunno if that's before or after your...
Noticed the ongoing works on the bridge parapets at Roseberry Crescent in Kirkcaldy, the second bridge north of the station. The metal fence panels and top of the wall you can see on Street View have been removed with a third row of stone added, presumably with another row or two to come. Sign...
Not really, you can see the in car footage of them turning off the A95 to cross the bridge over the railway, then some drone shots of crossing the River Spey (likely doubled back on themselves) and then into the gravel road to the station (only bit you actually see the plates unblurred).
The first shot of the train arriving at Broomhill appears to have another locomotive on the rear, which presumably took it back to Aviemore as we get a shot looking back from the rear carriage of the wagons without anything else behind, as it heads back to Broomhill...
Well if it just mentions extending the height of bridge parapets then they must think that the clearance for that bridge is enough, otherwise they'd have to replace/raise the entire bridge. Here's an example from the Edinburgh to Glasgow electrification...
To be clear it says parapets not the bridge. :) There's also two foot bridges near Dysart that haven't been mentioned but I think they will ok for clearance, maybe just parapet work.
“All of a sudden, that station that once felt large and airy feels like a small shed,” Dennis adds. And when multiple trains are delayed or cancelled, “you’re talking about thousands of people squished into that space. It’s not just uncomfortable, it’s not just unpleasant, it’s unsafe.”
There...
Sorry, thought it was clear from the quote what I replying to
Is that the 2035 map on page 40 here https://www.transport.gov.scot/media/47906/rail-services-decarbonisation-action-plan.pdf (as it says "sections of route may include discontinuous or intermittent electrification") or is...
Since when was this section being wired? The announced plans are for Fife are wires from Kirkcaldy and Cardenden, up to Ladybank. The BEMUs being ordered will of course fill the gaps either side of the wires in Fife.
Couldn't see it mentioned in the thread - found a planning application to extend Glenrothes substation (which is to the west, between the town and Leslie): https://planning.fife.gov.uk/online/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=RF9LFWHF1AL00 - which says:
"The development is...
On the back of the nationalisation news I've seen some council election candidates talking about cheaper fares, station upgrades (step-free access), decarbonisation, and not diverting money to shareholders in the Netherlands.
So I'm wondering - how much profit actually went to Abellio? Because...
The entire point of the tunnel would be to save time bypassing the Fife coast - at least 25 minutes saved if it takes 15 minutes via Leith whereas a tunnel from Cockenzie would probably take twice as long.
How much scope is there for increase speeds between Alloa and Dunfermline? As it seems there's not much due to the coastal route, apart from the curves at Torryburn and south of Crossford.
