    New rail lines in Scotland

'Want some diagramatic examples of my alignment vision? In essence my 4.023km/2.5mile track construction would feed/connect the Larkhall, Uddingston (inc' WCML) & Edinburgh corridors but I've illistrated a more ambitious Northern continuation. Meanwhile, voila! 1776178600 A Borders extension...

    New rail lines in Scotland

Most redundant trackbed is still intact on the Symington-Galashiels (via Biggar, Peebles etc) is still unobstructed. Reconnecting to WCML @ Symington would bring Glasgow to just over an hour's commute of The Borders.

Fantasy: Major Infrastructure with Zero Chance of being Built

The only thing that invites me to challenge such pessimism is (1) the presence of dedicated bus-ways (Clyde Fastlink) already in Glasgow and that (2) swathes of tram-line in E'burgh's Broomhouse, Stenhouse & Saughton started out as Glorified/Guided Bus Routes.

    New rail lines in Scotland

A more direct Edinburgh-Perth via Kinross appears under consideration.

    New rail lines in Scotland

However unviable decades ago certain rail-route options, roads weren't then overcrowded at least sufficiently to warrant exploring alternative travel modes. Travrl Census finding may well prove otherwise. Yet given how short-term work/study placements are now more commonplace distance-commuting...

    New rail lines in Scotland

'Dare to differ re' Pencuik. Why? Because an alignment effectively linkng Penicuik with Peebles appears under consideration amongst route options for Waverley's extension.

    New rail lines in Scotland

I'll grant you not cheap, at least, by today's standards but never say never.

    New rail lines in Scotland

'Certainly A BIT more feasible nowadays than before Chunnel was built and HS2 started. There have to be SOME new-tech' discoveries thus advances made, ie in Tunnel Boring Technology, in the course of the latter venture. 'Largs to Wemyss Bay link and Callander realignment next?

    Double-Deck trains in UK

-Increased dwell-times? An extra door per side would more than offset the potentially slower loading/unloading.

    Double-Deck trains in UK

Even capacity gains as modest as 20% would effectively add an extra coach per 5. Now, what's wrong with that?

    New rail lines in Scotland

Whilst not totally inaccessible by a rail 'through-route' (as opposed to 'a dead-end' configuration which weakens St Andrews' campaign), the Peebles corridor is in competition with several alignment options consixered for Waverley extension. Never say never

    New rail lines in Scotland

There have been less feasible reopenings but given the M90 motorway utilises part of the former rail route a new alignment would be required. Again, by no means far-fetched.

    New rail lines in Scotland

Only 4.023km/2.5miles of track would be needed to better connect East Kilbride, Busby & Clarkston to Edinburgh, W Lothian, S Lanarks' & N Lanarks'. Rather than simply terminate EK's extension at Newton or Uddingston, those 2 towns could be served by a suburban-like circular service linking a...

    New rail lines in Scotland

Further pressure to have this rail-link reinstated is 'music to my ears'.

    New rail lines in Scotland

Yeah, excuse my past detail oversight. I see where you're coming from in that Coatbridge Central provides for connectivity (eg a rail-chord) to N-S movements from the Baillieston/Bargeddie line. In hindsight I'd still advocate a 4.033km/2.5mile East Kilbride/Eastwood spur to the WCML. East of...

    New rail lines in Scotland

I've since begun drawing a clearer draft, also much 'watered down' from my initial EK-Kirky in that Coatbridge's rail-chord provides comparable connection to two upper Falkirk/Stirling corridors. Anyhow, please meanwhile find attached my illustration of an EK-spur.

    New rail lines in Scotland

Take not just East Kilbride but E Ren' imm' west of it. Also take undeveloped farmland cornerned by Bailliesto/Bargeddie, Newton/Uddinston & Nerston. Well, if a 6.035km/3.7mile stretch of linking-track was constructed spurring n'wards from EK's disused line then E'burgh, Livingstone, C'nauld...

If you could open 10 stations in Scotland...

Could a minimally relocated Abronhill (albeit campaigned for) Station also near-serve Allandale. In common with that of a competing campaign ie Bonnybridge, the siting of either station would provide connectivity with two near-parallel alignments. 1753749071 A station at Mossend's main rail...

    New rail lines in Scotland

How's this for a Viable Case Combinec ie collection of lesd economic cases? Take Glasgow & E Dunb"s imm' eastern Greenbelt (eg between Newton & Uddingston) and construct a N-S Feeder line from East Kilbride to Kirkintilloch's norther reaches (not quite Milton Of Campsie rather Birdston). The...

If you could open 10 stations in Scotland...

For want of some greater WNW urban-sprawl, ie in the direction of the closest railway, the N Ayrs' town/village of Beith could support a station. The same may apply to D&G's Thornhills lesser proximity to WCML and how like-expansion could 'tip the scales' one day.
