Although it is listed as a decrease, the route itself is actually gaining seats - as AA is adding a daily 777-200 from Phoenix to Heathrow from the end of March until the end of October.
Now most services on the route are 2x158 (320 seats) they may not bother. A 7 car 222 is only 20 seats more?
On the two busiest services we have 640 Cl158 seats vs in previous years a 222 and a 158 combined total of 500 seats. Is my maths way out? Or were the 158s on the route strengthened in...
Can you back this up with facts, or let us know what knowledge of all the heavy plant you have to make such a sweeping statement? Or are you just scaremongering?
Quite simply, if your defence is that you pondered for a few seconds whilst travelling at 20mph then you should not be in the job. That is what a jury would think and not necessarily my opinion of course. Therefore it is not a very good example.
Has there ever been any formal or official suggestions of splitting the route, other than if electrification was to take place over part of the route? Other than if that was to happen, all I have ever seen is fantasy TOC planning by enthusiasts.

I know. In the context of the thread I thought it was clear that my point was the cascade was to Northern as opposed to Merseyrail, not that Northern were getting them all.
It doesn't depend on the cascade at all. The cascade is to Northern.
Merseyrail has already recruited someone in a role to manage the procurement of new stock and has already invited expressions of interest from manufactures. They will almost certainly need steerable axis on the bogies too...
