Actually it’s not for me. I’m an ex driver myself. Connex SE, based at Orpington back in the day. So lucky flames I do not need to seek alternative employment, but thanks anyway.
Can anyone tell me where to get the answers as I keep failing at the first hurdle. Even train driver managers that I know have failed these ridiculous questions.
Thanks in advance.
Hi all.
I’m an ex driver at Connex SE some 20 years ago, before rejoining the military. Now trying to get back into the industry and have an assessment day next week.
Any ideas what to expect? The company has not provided any practise / revision material.
Thanks in advance.
Hi. Do they look at your medical history, ie, your medical documents or do they rely on your honesty? The reason I ask is that certain TOC's refuse applicants that have had laser eye surgery in the past. Could anyone shed some light on why this is so?

When I started at Connex SE it was 9 weeks on rules, 4 or 5 on traction and then straight onto your driver training. Before I knew it I was on my own leaving Charing Cross en-route to Sevenoaks on a Sun afternoon. Good luck, you'll enjoy every minute of it.
I wouldn't keep bothering them if I were you. If you sent the application in via recorded delivery then you can check if it was received, or not. The best thing to do is just wait and be patient.
No, many jump ship from suburban work and go to TOC's such as Thameslink, GNER, etc to do (relatively) long haul as opposed to being a tram service. Once you've done Sevenoaks / Blackfriars a few times (all stations stop) you'll see why. Oh and the dreaded Orpy-Vic turns. I remember one such...
Part of the reason I left SE is due to the 'driver only' trains. No backup when you need it. Never, ever go back to reset a passcomm on your own. Call the signalman who will call the police who will come and deal with it. A couple of drivers (quite recently) have been badly filled in in the past...
Hi Madeit. The only advice I can give is to spend an hour each evening going over the work that you've covered that day so that it sinks in, because you will move onto a different subject the next day. It makes it easier to recall the info during your rules and traction assessments. I believe...
Congratulations Madeit. I remember getting my contract through for Connex SE back in 1999. I only lasted 2 years as I was fed up with start / stop type suburban driving. I'm sure your routes will be far more enjoyable than the Catford loop, lol. Enjoy your new career. The training is awesome...
