I only use it to change from Reading-bound XC services to get to Bristol (and vice versa) and am completely confused as to why a lot of the retail outlets are the other side of the barriers and whether I'm allowd to access them.
Bummer - if it was on iOS, my daughter coud use this as the direct route to her new work is across the Botany Bay crosssing north of Retford but you can held for quite aa few trains (my "record" is 7). The alternative via Retford itself is not much longer but can have a lot more traffic.
This is very common from my experience, their customer services just tell you that all the seats are booked which I don't believe but haven't taken the risk of standing for hours on a Voyager!
Hi All - Hope this is the right section.
I've been looking at travelling out to the Peak District from Sheffield on a Sunday and there appears to be a two hour break between 12:14 and 14:14. The one that would be most convenient to me is of course the "missing" 13:14 that does appear to run on...
Maybe just me but this morning both the National Rail website and app are not showing any further services when you press the "View later trains" link on the Live Departures page. This is useless for checking whether servicesa are a) planned to run (hello XC) or b) have set off/are on time for...
Does XC (and whoever owns them today) not have Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) plans that are regularly tested as part of their business management system? I bid into government (in non-rail sectors) and it's a standard requirement to have either ISO 22301 (the BCDR standard) or...
Interesting seeing the drivers manually changing the points east of the Cathedral stop to swap from the incoming track and then reverse back up after changing the points again.
I went to Doncaster to go to Sheffield on the 12:11 XC (that was runing to time when I set off an hour before) and it was chaos.
The XC was cancelled die to "congestion" (whatever that is).
Platform 3 was packed with King's Cross passengers who were being advised a) to get on the 12:22 to...
I saw the one at Retford Low Level being used to take a wheelchair passenger across but can't remember if it was before the lifts were done or while they were not working.
This is happening again! Trying to book Doncaster<>Bristol next Wednesday, returning Thursday and there are no seats avaialble on the 4 services (change at Birmingham) I select.
I am the OP so thanks for all the input, when I said "via Manchester", I'd forgotten about Stockport.
I was confused as I used the forum site to specify "via Manchester", selected an Open Return and it gave me an Off-Peak Return that I assumed was via Sheffield, but looking more closely, it...
I was impressed on Saturday that an obscure public footpath crossing at Hampole, just south of South Elmsall, had green/red lights, especially as on one side, the path was invisilbe, had not been used for a while and was overgown shrubs. There are foot crossings near Retford that are used far...
I agree with all the points below but generally I have been on time into and out of Sheffield (mainly to/from Doncaster but also to/from Bristol fairly regularly) over the last couple of years.
Hi All - I 'm wanting to do a few days trip from Doncaster to Shrewsbury return and would like a flexible ticket.
National Rail seems to send me via Birmingham but I'd like to go via Manchester, would an off-peak return be valid by this route please?
Thanks.
