Level crossing at Exeter St Davids

They can allow pedestrians to cross even if the barriers are down. They also monitor the crossing as it is so wide people could get trapped inside.

Sign language on train route information displays (and station departure boards)

I can see some benefit during times of disruption. However I really can't see the point of signing departures. Looking at the departure boards is going to be much quicker than waiting for each departure to be signed.

GWR two passengers left behind at Paddington

Let's get realistic. This is platform 1 at Paddington which has no barriers. If it had been platforms 2-5 they wouldn't have been able to get to the platform. The train manager has to manage the despatch process. There comes a point when they have to decide to go.

Anybody had a train wait for them a minute or more as you ran along the platform/footbridge?

Many years ago when travelling on the Pwlheli line. Passed a request stop and 2 teenagers came out of the waiting hut as we passed by. Driver stopped the train slipped it into reverse and went back to pick them up !

West Midlands Trains Industrial Action July/August 2026

Don't wish to sound controversial but why cant trains run normally. You need a driver , guard and signaller to run a train. Or is it part of the TOC safety case they need people in control watching the service.

Rail staff serving themselves in front of customers in first where no catering available

No they don't. Drivers walk through all the time when they change ends and they don't take a food hygiene course. Anyway it's not really relevant to this thread as the TM served tea so clearly is can use the kitchen.
