Network Rail have a short video on X about the Pill station works fwiw: https://x.com/networkrailwest/status/2091850849660080503 (not sure if it's available somewhere else as well, e.g. on YouTube or a Network Rail web page)
As I understand it, the Brabazon masterplan is is divided into four phases, each unlocking more development. The first requires the delivery of the new station (imminent, hopefully). The second phase requires 2-3 trains per hour. The third phase requires direct trains to Parkway in addition to...
"Figure 2-11 - Shortlisted corridor options" and "Figure 2-9 - South-West Corridor longlist options" in the WECA Future4WEST Strategic Outline Case (pdf) has all the route options considered for what it's worth.
That was all part of a "mass transit" thing that is still very much in the making, just without or with fewer underground sections, which were mostly for the other routes/directions anyway (north, east). Even though there were some options with underground sections towards the airport, I don't...
It would still be a much more direct and shorter route for everyone heading to the station from the Bath Rd or Totterdown area.
Also possibly more pleasant, since it bypasses the need to navigate that horrible half-footpath-half-cyclepath concoction on Bath Bridge roundabout which is unpleasant...
There's also the former Kwik Fit site, which IIRC will feature a new MSCP and another entrance to the station via a bridge next to the tracks towards platform 4 ('Southern Gateway')
There will also be new stations on the Henbury spur line, North Filton (YTL arena) and Henbury, which are now scheduled to open in 2026 at the earliest, also with one service per hour for starters (thread), so maybe those could/will be operated together somehow?
Another thing to keep in mind...
I think a new MSCP (and also cycle parking) is planned as part of the "Southern Gateway" scheme (with direct access to the station via a pedestrian bridge alongside the tracks). The MSCP would be on the current Kwik Fit site on Bath Road / A4. I don't know if this will include short term parking...
See WoE Joint Transport Board - 17 June 2016 Agenda and Papers (zip) - PDF document Item 8 - Major Transport Projects 17 Jun 2016, Appendix 3 "MetroBus Programme Exception Report" for more details:
I believe cost impact mentioned elsewhere was £1-2m, but I do not have a source for that at hand.
Does the demolition of the signal box at TM depend on the resignalling work being completed? If yes, does that basically mean it won't be demolished until much later, and the Digby-Wyatt shed won't see new platforms/tracks until much later?
Is my reading of the report right that the actual redevelopment of Bristol TM will only happen in CP6 now? It says that in CP5 only "passenger circulation works" (whatever those may be) will be delivered, while the "reinstatement of platforms within the Midland Shed capable of accommodating a...
I find it hard to believe that Bristol TM to Parkway along Filton Bank won't be electrified in the first wave, but then I also don't quite see how they're going to finish the Bristol Temple Meads redevelopment in time, seeing that the masterplan is still outstanding. Perhaps the two are not...
Do you happen to know what the rationale was for this? Cost reduction? Maintaining the parts of the building currently in use for other purposes (shorter trains presumably need shorter platforms)? Minimise distance between local services to facilitate inter-modal exchange (MetroBus and...
