We could not connect to the services that deliver your tickets

To me the obvious reason for doing what they did would be they came to believe the original transaction had a high risk of being fraudulent.

£33.4 million for next batch of ticket gates

TPE operate quite a bit from 13/14 which are primerally accessed via Also the current gates at picadilly are operated by Avanti and TPE. Maybe they decided it was easier to avoid introducing a third gate operator to the mix.

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

There are also many cases where ticket acceptance is arranged on busses not managed by the railway, I highly doubt these are ever loaded into railway timetabling systems.

    Strange Things Seen on CIS

Seen that sort of thing in a few places, not just on the railway. I presume that when the screen is unable to correctly establish a network connection and talk to it's master server the it drops into a mode where it displays troubleshooting information.

Recycling plant fire causing Southeastern and Windrush line disruption

3 decades ago there were a lot less lithium ion batteries around...............

Trivia : Are there any stations that have no public exits?

Regardless of what they are doing next, eveyone enters/leaves the station via connections to the south terminal of Gatwick airport Cross-referencing different maps, it seems there are essentially 3 options for pedestrians from there. 1. Exit onto the footpaths and service roads between the...

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

Who sets the incomplete journey fee? I'd assumed that at-least within the zones it would be set by tfl since it's first and foremost their system.

Easements when routes into Leeds are limited

It seems to be quite inconsistent, IIRC when I looked it up manchester to leeds was not valid via sheffield, but manchester to york was.

Trains all at a stand in the Manchester area... (Thursday afternoon 06AUG2026)

Do we know why specifically it was "up to the job" for the cheadle hulme area but not for the stockport area?

Trains all at a stand in the Manchester area... (Thursday afternoon 06AUG2026)

What I heard was that when the "manchester south" scheme was put in, it was hoped that it would be extended to cover stockport,. When what is now platform 0 was first built it was numbered 1, presumablly in anticipation of resignalling works but the ansaldo kit proved problematic so the...

    Level Crossing Pedestrian Signal

Interestingly in Woodsmoor there is a level crossing which is one-way for vehicles but two-way for pedestrians. The side from which cars can enter has a pair of traditional wig-wags, but the side from which only pedestrians can enter has a pair of flashing red men and no wig-wags...

    Wheel Lathe list

Am I right in thinking that there are at least two types of "wheel lathe"? ones that are designed to turn wheels while they are still on the unit, and ones that are designed to turn wheels as a seperate item.

    Tactiles Melting?

My impression is that while the UK sent huge amounts of our money down the drain in a hopeless attempt to prevent climate change, there has been a "head in the sand" attitude when it comes to mitigate the effects of the inevitable change in our climate. I think this summer has been a wake-up...

    Running Out of Fuel

I would presume/hope that there is a margin between the range figures used for tracking purposes, and the actual fuel in the tanks and that the planning was based on "how far we can go while being confident we won't run out of fuel". It's worth noting that sheffield and ely on this route aren't...

    London Liverpool Street contactless

That's why I asked him how he arrived at Liverpool street............... Notablly at stratford, everything is behind the same barriers, while at Liverpool street there are seperate barriers for the "tfl" side (inc elizibeth line IIRC) and the "NR" side. To the OP, you should be able to view...

    Cambridge South new station opening

Yeah, for a phone charging point I'd expect a double socket with USB at the very minimum (and more commonly multiple such sockets) Smells of a miscommunication somewhere about what should be fitted.

    London Liverpool Street contactless

Can you describe your FULL journey? where were you travelling from? how did you get to liverpool street? did you tap your card at any stations before ariving to liverpool street.

Could Delay Repay be paid instantly at a station?

I think this would cause more problems than it solved. There are easy delay repay cases, but there are also disputed cases. Having those disputes play out in person with ticket office staff would likely not be good for the sanity of either the ticket office staff or the passengers queuing up...

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

Right, but on trainsplit I can say "give me a journey that only uses tfw and wmt" at which point the tickets in question will show up. Most other sites simply don't give me the option to do that.
  20. P

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

I think that is generally true, but I also think there are cases where trainsplit was previously the "least bad" option, but this site is better. In particular things like the "tfw+wmt" tickets.
