    St Pancras to Euston

Yes turn right onto Midland Road then first left into Brill place, keep straight on and over into Pheonix Road and keep straight. This then takes you to Eversholt Street; turn left for Euston. A quieter route but not the most pleasant of areas...

East Midlands Trains to close buffet cars

Thanks JB, as I suspected EMT haven't got this one right from both a customer, staff and safety perspective. I wonder how much is EMT and how much is DafT's franchise requirements. As usual the moneyspinners win .

East Midlands Trains to close buffet cars

I must say it looks very sad conveying a buffet car up and down the line that will never open. A backwards step in my view. EMT took away the electronic tills from the buffets so that staff had to maintain paper records of stock, meaning that the buffet was open for shorter periods. Then...

Norwich to Liverpool Street loco hauled

When I first read the title of this thread I thought of loco hauled from Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street, now that would be an improvement!

Black Triangles of NXEA Class 317s

East Midlands Meridians have painted the coupler yellow at the first class end, which can be easily spotted as the train approaches.

    Electrification scrapped.

Yeah, I'd agree. More people will benefit from that type of investment. Let's get the wires up to Sheffield too.

    Electrification scrapped.

On the GW aren't the OLEs being extended to Reading for Cross Rail? Makes sense to extend even further, especially when there is a +ve business case. I understand one of the main benefits (which is rarely mentioned) is the current cost of diesel engine replacement, which is where the TOC/ROSCO...

    chester to settle line

Most 153s I've been on seem to have a rat p**s smell in the luggage rack area. Anyone else or is it just me?

    chester to settle line

I take it that a dogbox is a 153. Is that because they smell?

    chester to settle line

I'm planning on travelling Leeds to Carlisle on Sunday 30th May, departing at 17.33. Can anyone tell how crowded the service is likely to be and what trains operate it. Thanks

    Network Rail Signallers: Strike Action

Derr! I thought this arguement was about safety? Thousands loose their lives every year on the roads, whilst on the the railway in 2008 there were 5 passenger and 3 workforce fatalities.

Transport bosses letter in The Times

The headline is mis-leading; they are not asking for more cash they are asking for greater capacity, which involves more rolling stock (DafT) and more train paths (Network Rail - also Govt owned)

    Rail Staff Travel on LUL

That's why I want to make the most of the bits of LU where we are able to travel for free with a dated staff travel card; just don't know whether the barrier staff will recognise the staff travel card as being valid.

    Rail Staff Travel on LUL

Priv rate travelcards were withdrawn at the begining of the year:cry:

    Rail Staff Travel on LUL

Unfortunately I don't work for LU, and as LU staff are not too pleased about the differences in travel facilities offered I don't suppose they're going to go out of their way to answer this one......

    Rail Staff Travel on LUL

Rail staff travel cards can be used on certain sections of the underground without the need to purchase priv rate tickets (e.g. Bank - Waterloo, Liverpool Street - Stratford, Putney Bridge - Wimbledon). Full details can be found in the ATOC Guide to Travel Facilities found here...

They locked me out of the station!

Perhaps this is why EMT came second to bottom in the "Best Operational Delivery" category at the Golden Whistles 2010 awards. (London Overground were at the bottom, but were the most improved!) EMT had a 0.06% improvement since Spring 2008. [See March 2010 copy of Modern Railways.]

    EMT 1st Class Food

The cooked breakfasts, although expensive are very good. They are only available on certain trains, the details of which, can be found here: http://www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/EMTrains/YourJourney/_FirstClass/FirstClassBreakfast.htm
