"Trivia" Through stations with extremely few passenger trains which do not call

Redhill actually has two sets of fast lines. The Quarry line bypasses it entirely but there are also fast lines running through Redhill station in between the platforms. Presumably its in a similar situation to Bromley South - the overnights don't stop there so that trains may take either...

Cambridge-London Terminals tickets valid to Blackfriars?

It does, but only from the South. The London Terminals vary by direction; you cannot use a London Terminals ticket to pass through Farringdon to reach a London Terminal on the other side of central London.

Cambridge-London Terminals tickets valid to Blackfriars?

The simplest way to understand this rule is that a London Terminals ticket is not valid for alighting at, or passing through, Farringdon.

    May 2026 timetable

Just for anyone (like me) who continues to be enthralled by this wonderful map and staggered at the amount of work it must have taken, I note that Paul has created a new DRAFT 008 of the map: https://www.balmer.uk/paulsrailmap.pdf Paul has kindly added one very minor correction that I reported...

Avanti To Remove 38 Trains a Week for 6 Weeks in the Summer

Expect to see much more of this in the new era, as the lack of any need to give contractual certainty to businesses will mean decision-making needn't be as long-term as it has been, especially for pre-covid franchise arrangements. There are both upsides and downsides to this, of course.

Direct Bromley North to London Cannon Street services on 17th May 2026

Presumably this service joined the fast (Charing Cross) lines at Grove Park? It would have to cross quite a few lines to get to Cannon Street wouldn't it?

Southeastern planning to restore pre-Covid frequencies on Dartford lines

For clarity, the reason I made the above suggestion was to (a) speed up the Thameslink service, the slowness of which was being criticised and (b) preserve access to the Elizabeth line for stations that would be skipped by a sped-up Thameslink.

Southeastern planning to restore pre-Covid frequencies on Dartford lines

I'm sure there are lots of reasons why this wouldn't work, but I'd: - truncate the Victoria - Gravesend service at Dartford - extend the Cannon Street to Dartford via Blackheath and Woolwich Arsenal to Gravesend calling at all stations (to preserve link with Elizabeth line) - remove the...

Southeastern planning to restore pre-Covid frequencies on Dartford lines

Medway also has the peak time fasts to London Bridge and Cannon Street going via (but not stopping at) Chislehurst. 1772459572 The Woolwich Arsenal line will have 6tph from Cannon Street. I think the journey opportunities to Blackfriars, Farringdon, St Pancras Intl and stations north of London...

Southeastern planning to restore pre-Covid frequencies on Dartford lines

I'm rather surprised to see this dislike of Thameslink - in my view it is good for the northern of the three routes to have a variety of London terminals, as the other two routes do, rather than 8x Cannon Street. It's a shame that the "via Blackheath" service doesn't go to Charing Cross, but I...

Why did they have the DLR , rather than extend the Underground/overground

I think a better question might be "Why haven't we built more DLRs elsewhere?"

    Assisted Dying

I'm extremely sorry for your loss, truly I am, but I think it's very dangerous to think of assisted death as a potential means to lessen the distress of the living.

Trivia: Unusual / Interesting Calling Patterns?

Although its service was improved in the last timetable change, there are still some peak services that skip Albany Park (e.g. the 0804 from Gravesend). 1731405696 I remember this happening, and you are all correct that the purported reason was drunken behaviour. I remember signs at the time...

    Delay repay to station groups

The consensus seems to be that my walking the last stretch has confused matters. I don't want to risk claiming for something that I might not be strictly entitled to, and frankly I'm claiming the tickets on expenses anyway.

    Delay repay to station groups

I thought I had done just that, but the system seems to have assumed that I exited at Shrub Hill (which in fact I sort of did, although Foregate Street was genuinely the end of my journey and I did walk to it). Had I in fact waited and got the train to Foregate Street, I'd have made the same...

    Delay repay to station groups

Thanks. I did indeed start from FS for the return. 1730381316 Thanks. I won't appeal this, primarily because I have already got a relatively decent outcome and life is too short, and I appreciate that me walking the last stretch complicates matters. But I'm concerned there is a bit of a...
