    Because it's become the norm, the 450s were a step down from the 442s they replaced. The complaints largely disappeared when Southern brought in the 313s and people realised how bad things could be, similarly GWR brought in turbos to replace 158s on the Cardiff route so the 450s became the best...

    Unfortunately the current situation at Fratton makes things difficult because the alternative exit from the island platforms two & three (towards Portsmouth & Southsea) is currently unavailable due to the ongoing work on the 'old' footbridge which is open for footfall from one side to the other...
