Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

People are forgetting that the reason Post Offices are often in TG Jones stores is because the previous stand alone ones were not viable. Often the next step, once TG Jones is closed is moving them into random convenience stores, so the main city centre post office often looks just like one you...

    Isle of Wight timetable booklet?

Southern Vectis print paper timetable booklets, you should be able to pick one up even before you arrive on the island at the ferry terminal

Cross-operator ticket acceptance announced (excluding East Midlands Railway, OAOs) when services are cancelled

So you are at Manchester Victoria with a ticket to Leeds route Hebden Bridge. The Northern service is cancelled, can you therefore immediately jump on a TPE service to Leeds, despite it usually being more expensive, taking a different route, and the fact that there is a Northern service on the...

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

Ordering shorter trains with the hope the frequency increase will save them - isn’t that what they did with CrossCountry?

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

How often is that said, in hope, and how often does it happen People said the same about the 185 and they said the same with the 195s, they probably said the same about the Voyagers as well. In reality the government of the day will procrastinate for so long that the option will expire, and...

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

Where do you travel Selby to Hull? I don’t think I’ve ever been on any Transpennine Express service through Huddersfield that can be described as ‘very empty’

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

Isn’t this the tail wagging the dog? We can’t have full length trains at Leeds, Huddersfield, Manchester because somewhere like Seamer or Thirsk can’t accommodate them Imagine if they ran short trains on some services on Thameslink because a random suburban station in South London had a short...

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

2x 185s have 338-362 seats (if you include tip ups or not) I’m guessing they hope the media won’t notice any of this and just assume any new trains for the north is good because all trains in the north are 50 years old (as the media would probably think)

    West Yorkshire bus franchising

Surely that must be an error as it makes no sense, unless they are deliberately wanting to increase costs

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

As others have said, it’s disappointing they are only 5 cars long, where is the growth coming from when they are no bigger than the existing trains? Most TPE services are already 5 or 6 cars long, and you’d assume when the route upgrade is finished passenger numbers are supposed to grow, when...

    Sunderland 700/701 TUPE dispute

    West Yorkshire bus franchising

Firstly franchising doesn’t work like that, and secondly it could be argued that the upcoming franchising is partly to blame for all that, but in any case it’s not really on topic. If they gave it up, wouldn’t it just go to whoever came in second place? It certainly doesn’t seem ideal to have...

    Transdev Blazefield

No, but Transdev may sell them Idle, but then again Transdev may win Bradford contracts within tranche 3 so may want to keep it Idle was originally opened by Yorkshire Tiger so has changed hands before.

    West Yorkshire bus franchising

You wonder how Tower Transit’s finances stack up for Holmfirth locals compared with stotts when they will have to establish a completely new operation. Stotts use the same staff that one day work on a solo one day work on a levante coach.

    West Yorkshire bus franchising

My point was that Cleckheaton mostly runs Bradford and Calderdale services at the moment so isn’t effected by this tranche. I wonder if something substantial like the 254/255 might be part of this Cleckheaton batch?

    West Yorkshire bus franchising

I don’t know what you mean by ‘keep Cleckheaton’, it’s a local service in the Cleckheaton area that they’ve won (probably the 259), not Cleckheaton depot, although they may run it from there. Cleckheaton depot doesnt actually run any services locally
