How many trains that can run faster than its current top speed?

I can imagine that the trains and systems were tested, but the new trains were labelled and marketed to the travelling public as being capable of 225kph.

How many trains that can run faster than its current top speed?

The IC225s were named as such because 225kph = 140mph. I remember hearing at the time that it was intended to run at 140mph between Stoke junction and Peterborough on the ECML and that the signalling was upgraded, but I don’t think it ever happened.

The Royal train and HM Queen Elizabeth II funeral plans.

I read earlier today that the train would travel from Edinburgh Waverley all the way down the ECML. The destination was not mentioned, but I think we can presume it will be Kings Cross. No doubt, there will be thousands along the railway to see the train and pay their respects.

Best train time tracking website for those not rail and tech savvy?

I would recommend the ByTrain app. There is a Pro version, but the free version should be sufficient for most and is nice and easy to use.

East coast main line. Weds 25 August.

I was on the LNER 8:15 from Leeds this morning and we had to firstly pick up additional passengers from a terminated GC train at Doncaster. We were then stopped just before Peterborough, on P3 at PBO without opening the doors, stopped again after PBO and then a pick up only stop at Huntingdon...

    SeatFrog?

I'm due a return trip LDS to KGX tomorrow. For the morning train to KGX Seatfrog is showing as "All seats sold out". I originally booked advance tickets about a month ago via the LNER website. I am using a Railcard and noticed that the 1st class advance for the evening return was only about £11...

Stations where trains only commence service/terminate service when heading from/to a Depot

EMR HSTs of course no longer go to Leeds for Neville Hill. There used to be 3 trains a day for many years terminating and starting at Leeds. I was at Leeds station last week and saw an EMR 222 parked on platform 5 that had arrived from St Pancras. I checked RTT and found that it then forms an...

    LNER Advances for short journeys

That's crazy. It's cheaper than catching the bus from Leeds to Horsforth.

Entire 800/801/802 fleet stood down for safety checks

I had assumed that TPE would be using class 185s to substitute. May not have the spare units available.

Entire 800/801/802 fleet stood down for safety checks

Sky News just reported that LNER had informed them that the faults were discovered overnight. Yeah right!

Entire 800/801/802 fleet stood down for safety checks

Looks like 1Y14 6:55 Newcastle to Kings Cross is due to leave at 7:20. That is the only LNER I can see running so far.

Trivia - longest journey time and distance between stations outside London

I think that extra stops like Peterborough and Doncaster were added recently, but this service had operated for at least 20 years. The bulk of the passengers would be traveling between London and Leeds.

Trivia - longest journey time and distance between stations outside London

I think up until covid, there was the daily 7:05 Kings Cross to Leeds that only stopped at Stevenage and Wakefield Westgate. That's 148 miles non-stop between these 2 stations.

Trivia - Furthest you've seen someone carried beyond their intended stop

After a weekend in London, I caught the then Leeds Executive service out of Kings Cross on Monday morning to go straight to work in Leeds. The train's first stop was Stevenage, where 2 ladies jumped on at the last moment. I can't remember where they were heading for, but it certainly was not...

Average age of British passenger trains is 21, study says

I commute on Northern and I have learned to avoid the Pacer units. Two months ago a train was held at New Pudsey for over an hour because they were unable to close the doors on the 2 car Pacer unit at the front. Then a couple of weeks later, the passengers on the 2 Pacer carriages at the...

    Northern franchise awarded to Arriva.

Two weeks ago Northern had started an additional morning commuter trip from Bradford to Leeds. I've seen the train twice at Leeds station and the rolling stock used is a Grand Central Class 180. The train goes back to Bradford Interchange empty and there seems to be no evening return. I have...
