    New 225 Diagrams

These are interesting. Could you explain the meaning of the two letters after the headcode, e.g. 5S04LN, please?

    NREC Controls

I saw a RGI tweet today referring to a trial Class 73 with new Cummins diesel engines and "NREC controls". Can anyone tell me what these are and how they differ from conventional diesel-electric controls?

    Air Conditioning

I'm doing a survey. Can anyone help by giving me a budget price for a new air conditioning unit for a passenger salooon and also for a driver's cab as delivered to the workshop? Any help much appreciated.

    Stonegate Overrun

The RAIB is investigating a train which failed to stop at Stonegate on 8th Nov at about 08:10. It went 2.5 miles before the driver managed to get it to stop! Anyone know anything worth recording here?

How do you release your doors?

There's nothing to stop the operator opening the doors before the train stops as long as it's in range of the CSDE loop. In fact, it's very useful in speeding up unloading. If you save 2s on every stop on the Undergorund, at the end of a trip with 30 stops you've saved a train path. Remember...

    Electric Door Operators

Thank you for this. You reminded me that I have a copy of an I Mech E paper on this stock and it confirms it was the first main line train to have electric operators. LU had one on the Piccadilly Line in the 1960s but it was a test. The doors were very much faster than air doors so it kept...

    Electric Door Operators

Can anyone tell me which was the first UK multiple unit stock to get electrically operated doors as opposed to air operation? And, what system do Pacers use?

    Oxshott accident

Why is it taking so long to re-open the line? The RAIB & HSE haven't mentioned it so I suppose it's been declared a Scene of Crime! Is Plod stamping all over it? Oh dear.

    Favorite tube stock

When I was on nights, it was a quick bite, cup of tea and heads down on specially arranged seat squabs on a trailer car with the compressor isolated and heaters on. Best location was the exam shed at Neasden in winter. We were allowed to put the leads in ourselves then because we were treated...

    EMT December 2008 timetable

This new EMT timetable is a complete disaster. We have two new stations which aren't going to get a service yet but trains will be stopping at them - E Midlands Parkway and Corby, maybe(?) - and my service from/to Loughborough has now degenerated into a farce. We had a train every 30 minutes...
