White light on top of train

Today at Birmingham New Street, I saw a train passing by with a bright white light on top of the carriage. It was dark, so I couldn't identify which TOC it was. Does anybody know what this could have been?

    Staff call 100 at BHM

I live next to BHM, and this happens every second week or so (excluding the weekly test on Satuday night). Unfortunately such a common occurrence that it's not really worth reporting.

    obb ticket collection - dispute

Sorry for the bump, but in Leer (Germany), there are indeed Dutch Arriva ticket machines. In Enschede, Venlo and Heerlen (all in the Netherlands) there are German machines, and in Luxembourg there is a French ticket machine. There are no doubt others.

    Trivia: Most common ticket sold

I would go for London Heathrow to London Paddington.

2nd man now dead after New Street incident.

Could this have anything to do with graffiti sprayers? Judging by the amount of graffity on the North of the railway bridge, the sprayers must often climb over the walls of the bridge. I can't find the original discussion, do you have a link?

    Real-time delay information

Very good example. That app uses the same data as National Rail (NR): http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/ldbdetails/9PVacmR0MWnlUqbkRf5mBQ%3D%3D If you look on RTT, you see that for some reason, the WTT is 1,5-2,5 minutes later than the GBTT (probably the WTT has been pushed 2 minutes...

    Real-time delay information

RTT seems to give the answer: the time is also measured in the stations where it doesn't stop. For example, although it left Redhill on time, it passed Merstham 2 minutes and Coulsdon South one minute late, so presumably that was used to calculate the delay in East Croydon.

    Real-time delay information

Thanks. I take it any manual intervention happens after the stage when RTT gets the data? Is the manual intervention done by the TOC, or by Network Rail?

    Real-time delay information

Passengers have different ways to get informed about possible delays: overhead next-train displays, tv-like displays, the National Rail site/app, the Network West Midlands site/app (in the West Midlands), and sites like http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/. I noticed that these systems are not...

Thanks for the answers! It was indeed yellow, but I don't remember exactly which of the trains on that page it was.

    Question about track maintenance train

Last week, I heard this maintenance train passing by from my apartment: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/H33794/2014/06/05/advanced (TRUST ID 42300HC805, Running as 300H, VAR schedule UID H33794, Service code 53790132) The train made a very loud sound, much louder than the regular...

Birmingham New Street - Gatwick airport with London Midland

Of course, then it makes sense. I did not realise Virgin uses different tracks between Milton Keynes and Rugby.

Birmingham New Street - Gatwick airport with London Midland

That doesn't work, I still get Virgin trains even though Virgin only passes through Milton Keynes and does not stop there. That doesn't work either, still no LM trains. Yes, looking for cheaper fares. That's annoying. :( I travel one way during peak hours, so it is £97.50 for me. That...

Birmingham New Street - Gatwick airport with London Midland

When I look up fares for Birmingham New Street - London Euston on National Rail, I get to see both Virgin and London Midland trains. However, when I look up fares for Birmingham New Street - Gatwick Airport, I only see the Virgin trains. Does anyone know whether there is a way to book this route...

    Scheduled platforms Birmingham New Street

Of course delays require platforms changes. But the strange thing is that even the planned schedule, which does not take delays into account, has different platform allocations for different hours. So delays cannot be the only reason. I don't quite see that. I understand that the schedule at...
