New Rail Station at Barrhead South

The Balgray station project is scheduled to be completed by October. Engineering management were unsure as yet as to whether Scotrail would stop trains from then or it would be delayed to the timetable change.

ScotRail Suburban Fleet (EMU and BEMU) Market Engagement

As the gentleman told me at the end of last year the above issues needed ironed out before new trains could be ordered. I was inquiring as to whether this had moved on since December and the 5 car sets had been cleared. With reference to that mentioned above the proposed depot to the south of...

ScotRail Suburban Fleet (EMU and BEMU) Market Engagement

It was the 5 car suburban units that were giving concern to Transport Scotland and their potential clearance issues. As I was told a while back it had to be proved they would fit all platforms and locations.

ScotRail Suburban Fleet (EMU and BEMU) Market Engagement

Did the study of the 6 car verses 5 longer car vehicles come to a conclusion. The main issue I believe was the centre and end throw of the longer vehicles on platforms particularly at the platform ends, turnouts and the kinematic envelope between passing trains and lineside structures. I think...

HS2 Reset: Evidence to Transport Committee - 9 July 2025 "Total overspend on high-speed rail could be as much as 100%"

I would imagine when Birmingham to Old Oak/Euston services get up and running and the public find out how wonderful HS2 is the pressure will be on to get it to Manchester and beyond. The capacity problems from Handsacre to Preston aren't going away and will still need delt with.

HS2 Reset: Evidence to Transport Committee - 9 July 2025 "Total overspend on high-speed rail could be as much as 100%"

Thank you for the information. I wasn't aware that there had been a 7bn annual cap given to the project. It makes sense that they should progress the central section and have something to show for their efforts as soon as possible. Getting passengers on the trains will change everything although...

HS2 Reset: Evidence to Transport Committee - 9 July 2025 "Total overspend on high-speed rail could be as much as 100%"

A quick look on Google Earth shows that the construction compounds north of Delta Junction to Handsacre, bar those mentioned above, appear to have been abandoned some time ago. Could it be that some contracts have been delayed to meet treasury demands. Have there been any signs of a slowing of...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

The centre section of the train shed roof over new platforms 2 and 3 still requires attention. Will they be erecting the scaffolding before this week ends I wonder.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

At Huddersfield is there a single track bridge span still to go in over John William's St for the platform 6 turn back for the Leeds services. I've yet to catch it on any of the terrific pictures and videos posted by our intrepid enthusiasts who are recording this engineering feat for posterity.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I notice from the latest Sarah Bell YouTube vid that the new alignment of Platform 2 curves in a little at the Manchester end I presume the former Platform 4 will do likewise when trimmed back allowing access to the new platforms on the north side. Is the train shed getting extended at the Leeds...

HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct construction updates

Do you think the last piece of the jigsaw won't fit... or is there a topping out ceremony planned for the longest viaduct in the country.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

Is this just a platform extension or is the start of a track lower for one of the bridges?

UTX sprayed on the sleepers probably an under track crossing going in across under the yellow line to a chamber under the troughing.

    Aviemore incident 29/9/23

There's a shot of Flying Scotsman and it's footplate crew on Dulnain bridge at the head of steel and the crew standing in front of the loco shortly before it's return to Aviemore on that fateful day on the Strathspey Railway unofficial Facebook site.

Strathspey Railway volunteers stage walk out.

Yes the vast majority of whom are still working. A handful left the meeting with a hail abuse and swearing and threatened to shut the railway down.

The company's reply to the attack by a few members is printed in the Strathspey Herald.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

I was talking to one of the NR engineers recently and he was saying that the track under the Clarkson Road bridge was to be lowered by 200mm to gain clearance.

Also issues with wire gradients and drainage between the bridges and station platform.

Apparently Transport Scotland balked at the costs of redoubling, the platform extensions, bridge issues and signalling
