I think when they had assumed from previous experiences of trains being cancelled (which involved more wider disruption) that they didn’t need to rush to the station, could stay for dinner, and had the flexibility to take any later service.
Thanks to everyone that took the time to reply and...
A friend of mine had an Advance ticket for an Avanti service that was cancelled. They travelled on a later service and the guard insisted they purchase a brand new ticket as Avanti only permit passengers booked onto cancelled services to travel on the service immediately before or after. This...
Is there any information about this work and progress to date, available in the public domain?
I’m convinced if a single GB National Rail TVM UI were to be designed and rolled out nationally we would have a more much up to date, consistent, and feature rich TVM experience. It’s a no brainer...
At my work there is a staff canteen and I’m sure there are people that eat a traditional cooked breakfast every day but most people only have it as a occasional Sunday brunch or holiday treat.
I suspect most British people under 35 if travelling by rail at breakfast time would either have a...
I used it today at Brighouse to buy an advance ticket that I had seen online. Very useful feature that I think could make a huge difference for anyone that isn’t confident with machines or just needs some reassurance that they are selecting the best fare option. The only problem I had was it...
I’ve read somewhere that the ticket validation done by the gateline barcode readers is much less sophisticated than the checks done by the CCST reader, and it was for this reason that Northern trialled a separate so-called polygraph machine earlier this year, is there any truth in that? If the...
I would like to see a single system whereby all tickets are recorded in a unified database (like with aviation) but printable as Aztec codes from ticket offices, ticket machines or printers, or shown on device or added to a smartcard.
So regardless of where/how I bought the ticket, I should be...
Did they definitely say Elizabeth line? All the times I have been on the EL, the announcement says “this is the train to Abbey Wood via Canary Wharf” no mention of Elizabeth line.
The larger ticket machine in the tube ticket hall closest to the National Rail Station at Charing Cross (entrance at the top of Villers St) definitely has them because I used that one the other day after being directed to it by the staff working there.
They weren’t originally intending to use the Crossrail project logo, they were going to use the same purple and blue rounded with Crossrail text. See an example here https://cdn.londonreconnections.com/assets/crossrailroundel.jpg
I was expecting the opening day to be a Sunday and be for free. Does anyone know if there will be a free service on or around the opening date? If not, what’s the best ticket to get to explore the new line (Zones 1-4 travelcard)?
This is a map TfL produced a few years ago showing the extent of their territorial ambitions

There are also pages of reports and other evidence explaining how it would all work here...
https://www.railwaygazette.com/uk/northern-seeks-battery-hybrid-class-195-variant/60706.article
This article suggests these new units will be battery diesel units and they will be deployed as follows:
Given the proposed routes above, I don’t understand why a battery electric unit wasn’t...
I would love it if all tickets were all recorded in the same database with a unique booking ref regardless of how / where you buy it like the airlines.
If you book at a ticket office or TVM; simply print a standardised, professionally formatted ticket on receipt roll with an Aztec code, if you...
