The name change from WMSCC to BROC looks like it only considered the fringes. It is only when you get get to a national system like GSM-R that you notice. WMSCC should have been renamed to BIROC or something similar. Using the GSM-R phone book to contact the signaller is rare I would have thought.
Well in a similar outage in November 2023 in Edinburgh, the interlockings lost communication with the trackside modules and the messages overwhelmed the control system. I do not know if they replaced certain parts but I would not take any PR statements as gospel at this time.
Only for those who wish to travel without a toilet. What did Lumo provide for those unwilling to travel without a toilet even taking into consideration the mitigations?
The signalling system is fail safe therefore any interruption to the power or communications between the interlocking and trackside and the interlocking and signaller control system will put the signals to red (which are likely on different power supply to the interlocking or the control system).
It is very misleading precisely because 'a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing'

Call routing in non-Train Describer areas and unregistered trains is Location Dependent Addressing (LDA) which is essentially cell based routing. Every cell will be configured to route calls to a certain signaller. Call routing in TD areas and registered trains is enhanced LDA (eLDA) which uses...
Having a fleet of trains stabled waiting for infrastructure work to be completed is a much worse scenario than having the infrastructure waiting for the fleet of trains.
Emergency calls go to every train radio in pre-determined cells whether registered or not. Registering means the signaller can see (& search) the headcode on the trains & mobiles list (it will show unit number if not registered). In train desriber areas, registering also allows calls to be...
