Couldn't really see a thread to tack this on to, so thought I'd just mention this here - when the bad weather hit at the start of the year, as per usual, the Weybridge - Staines line was one of the first not to run/not take priority (as you'd expect) - my journey each day is Farnborough to...
I've seen Southern do blockades at Fratton which is an SWT station is it not? :)
Talking of FGW RPI's at Guildford - I use the North Camp to Guildford route quite a bit and can honestly say I've never ever seen one anywhere. But then, FGW have made the ticket machines card only at a number of...
SWT Journeycheck used to show late running, line problems and short formations - the latter being very handy as if I knew the 0716 from Farnborough was running short, I'd make sure I got the 0700... or similarly, if the 0700 was short formed, I'd get the 0716!
Maybe I've been spoilt with the...
What the hell happened to www.journeycheck.com/southwesttrains?
I check(ed) this every day on the way to work as it offers at-a-glance info on individual late departures, line problems, engineering work... National Rail was/is nowhere near specific enough for my commute to work - I could tell...
I've noted this elsewhere too - platform number signs changed but not the name boards! They definitely look better than the old signs - can anyone confirm that they aren't just sticky-back plastic?
Has anyone noticed that SWT appear to be also updating their platform signage? Farnborough now has the very smart dark blue with white writing signs :) One would assume this is network-wide? Are these proper brand-new signs or laminates-that-people-like-to-rip-off like the previous set?
I've got to go from Farnborough to Chertsey on my daily commute tomorrow... sounds like I shouldn't bother! Three different SWT services to catch - and the Weybridge train to Chertsey is always first to suffer in bad weather. We had nearly 9 inches here in Farnborough, snow was pretty...
Ditto! The chap on the PIS is pure cheese on the 458s!
Oh how I miss the Ascot-Virginia Water trek to work back in the day. Chertsey is still a right royal pain to get to though... used to live near Camberley, so went Camberley > Virginia Water > Chertsey... but now live in Farnborough...
Thinking about it, I think the current batch were installed in 2001/2002 (as I remember them going up and staying unused for a while at Frimley station when I first started work) so 7 years is probably about right!
I do know what you mean Capybara, but it is nice to hear from an "actual" person on the train :)
Can I interject here to say there are a couple of very helpful and genuinely funny guards on SWT that I have come across? The chap today on the 0732 from Woking I've seen before has fantastic...
Agree about SWT being random
Just seems a bit of waste of money to me, it must've cost a pretty penny to buy all the screens in the first place, and in railway terms, they weren't exactly bought that long ago! Still, I'm sure SWT know what they are doing...
On the subject of...
Thanks SWT Driver, that explains it! You'd have thought that the problem of those letters would've been spotted before agreeing with Ferrograph to supply the whole of the network with screens ;)
Is there any logical method to how they are being replaced or is it just a case of wherever...
Something I spotted recently which is baffling me - the customer information screens that overhang platforms that SWT use, showing 1st, 2nd and 3rd trains - these seem to be slowly being changed to "new" screens, the only noticeable difference being that the clock is smaller (now the same size...
Yep, was a single 450 today too - I get the 0803 each day... on Monday, Platform 1 wasn't in use, and the Staines shuttles were departing from Platform 3. There was an 0758 to Woking and 0758 to Staines timetabled to arrive at the same time on Platform 3  As it goes, the Staines service was...
