Quite simply, any Driver that suspected their train had derailed is clearly going to make an immediate emergency brake application. If it doesn’t affect the leading cab and has occurred several coaches back with the brake maintaining continuity it’s likely very little would be felt by the Driver.
Why would you be expected to go through all that effort to learn something and then just forget it? Why do you think there is so much information for you to learn if not to retain for the occasions you need it whilst carrying out your job?
I’m a Driver who keeps their phone off whilst in the cab as per policy and would never dream of using it whilst at the controls of a train.
I would never leave it in my locker, it will always be switched off in my trouser pocket. Reason being, if something unpleasant happens, I know it’s close...
I’ve got to be honest, I’m always astounded that people don’t recognise this. Not to mention that with the complexities of Traincrew diagrams, there’s a good chance that even more trains would be cancelled as Drivers drive multiple trains on different ‘legs’ throughout their working day and the...
My understanding is that it basically gives the companies a period of time to start winding down services and introducing a reduced timetable to accommodate the 60mph blanket speed. Much like when a storm is forecast and blanket speeds are enforced except with a storm, generally it is known...
I agree with you. The fact you’re clarifying that point is possibly indicative of the incorrect mental model that can be formed leading to incidents such as this. On any route you sign, you should be aware of all possible routings, no matter how obscure and every trip should expect that any...
I would view it as for the ‘greater good’. It’s not a closed shop, it’s up to individuals to make their personal choice to join a union, personally I would strongly recommend joining a union however, that’s just my opinion.
If a non member is in hot water, the situation is relevant to all in...
If you sign the route then you could be required to stop at any station on that route. Obviously if you have never stopped at a particular station before or only stop there infrequently, you will likely approach it much more defensively.
When you’re doing your driving hours with an Instructor you will be working their shifts so you would need transport to get you to and from your home depot at all hours of the day and night.
10.3 When stopping at a station platform where no platform starting signal is provided
driver
You must set the DRA when your train stops at a station platform after having:
passed a signal showing a single yellow aspect or a semaphore distant signal at caution
been authorised to pass at danger...
With some traction the Driver is only able to manually lay sand when wheelslip occurs under power (sand application being taken care of automatically when wheel slide occurs whilst braking). I can’t speak for the traction involved in this incident though.
Agreed. The fact that these incidents keep happening suggest there are issues that need to be looked into that are deeper than ‘only an idiot would do it’. If the railway industry persisted with this attitude we wouldn’t have the fairly good safety record that we do today as any incident...
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
