ECML animals incident near Grantham 20-21/8

A couple of the late night Kings Cross to Newcastle trains running 230 to 280 late. The 2103 from London due Newcastle 0505 instead of 0025; 2203 due Newcastle 0527 instead of 0134. Horrible night for everyone involved, staff and passengers, and the deer..

    Flights you have been on

I had a little trip HKG to Clark (CRK) in The Philippines this week courtesy of Cebu Pacific, a low cost carrier but pleasant enough. I got RP-C4103 on the way out, and then back on RP-C4136, both A320. The flight is around 1h40m each way so not too long and each leg full, although the return...

Flight Tracking Services - Interesting Observations

Whilst exploring the FR24 world today I saw one of the FedEx MD11, N574FE, aircraft that has been grounded since Sept 2025 brought to life in Singapore this morning. I saw at least 2 of these parked near the northern perimeter of Changi airport last time I was there, wonder if one or more is...

    Withdrawn/changed domestic ferry routes

There were ferries between Hebburn and both Walker and Wallsend on the River Tyne, the Wallsend ferry lasting until around 1986. These were used by workers to cross the Tyne and to the various shipyards that were there then. Journey time was just a few minutes. TT snippet from 1979 for reference.

Bus crashes in to a river in the Eastleigh area (26/06)

Having worked on the Enviro 400, Enviro 500, Enviro 200 etc and others, pressing the brake pedal should automatically cut the throttle, i.e. you cant drive against the brakes, the brakes will (should) always take precedence if the accelerator pedal becomes stuck for any reason. It is possible on...

    Caledonian Sleeper

The northbound Highland sleeper was caught up slightly in the Beattock issues earlier, the Inverness portion is currently around 2h20m late at Perth after a further 2 hour delay at Edinburgh. I imagine the single line sections may delay it a bit more. Been a long night for those passengers.

1Z99 now on site it seems and things moving on the up (01:30) that were stuck behind 1Z99. Presumably they'll drag the failed train to Beattock loop to clear the backlog? 1S83, 1S90 still stuck behind the failed train. Edit: 1S81 made it to Glasgow 312L.

    Flights you have been on

Flew Finnair for the first time recently, AY1336 LHR - HEL and then AY99 HEL-HKG, both in Biz class. Heathrow to Helsinki was on an A321, not bad, no entertainment but for 3 hours not a big deal. Helsinki to HKG was on an A350, also not bad. The seating was OK, the crew were OK and AY99 came in...

    Go North East

Being back in the North East for the moment and living in GNE territory (47/X45) I have to say I dread looking up bus times etc to see when (or if) something is due. Took a bus ride to Scarborough yesterday, so 47 into town then planning on the X10, as it is £3 but took the train for around a...

5 Hours at Hong Kong Airport

As a HK resident (Until 27th Jan anyway) if only 5 hours I'd stick to the airport. Depending on which gate you arrive at it can take some time to get to the arrival concourse area and the queues are not always short, even for residents. For visitors it can take some time to get though on...

Visiting the Normandy beaches without a car - is it practical?

I have actually wanted to do the same thing for years, might get round to it soon. Don't fancy driving on the 'wrong side of the road' so it would be public transport probably. Thanks for the thread, interesting stuff.
