I ended up getting the 4pm KX to Edinburgh, and as advised I had the sausage roll, having first settled for a cup of tea and a biscuit. 2 glasses of red to accompany the sausage roll which came with an excellent sauce.
Altogether good service.
Ha! But that steak was so fine and the photo so well done ;)
Thanks for the confirmation that a late lunch would be in order on the 1.30.
Any recommendations from the menu? My other thought was to pop into the new Piebury Corner for a carry-out and go 2nd,

OK, been away too long, but now planning a trip up to Edinburgh from Kings Cross this coming Friday.
Three trains take my fancy (with FC fares): 12 Noon (most expensive), 1pm and 1.30pm (the cheapest). Any advice on why not do the cheapest?
I know its a bit slower, but how are the food options?
Currently on the 13.00 out of KX to Waverley this fine Sunday. Not done this journey for a while and I'm on a FC Advance ticket that gave me admission to the FC Lounge at KX - which was disappointing as both coffee m/c s were out of order and food v.limited, but still a place to sit quietly -...
'Fraid not, I opted for the 'British Breakfast' - and very fine it was too.
I will post a pic, unless that has already been done.
(The one shown just now was one of the last shots of the dinner that was once available in the paid-for restaurant car.)

There seem to be four possible trains to choose from, the first leaving in late afternoon and the last getting in very late.
16:30 / 20:52 , 4:22hrs
17:00 / 21:43 , 4:43hrs
17:30 / 22:17 , 4:47hrs
18:30 / 23:38 , 5:08hrs
Is there anything else, other than elapsed travel time to...

And, here is another pic of the landslip between Berwick and Newcastle http://ow.ly/i/JnyH. Engineers are working hard to fix it.
been a long while since I travelled EC FC from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross (KGX) but did so yesterday mid-afternoon, returning on the 18.00hrs from KGX today.
Good trip down and was plied with enough sandwiches, tea and the scones to almost ruin my evening meal in London. Uneventful and...
Anyone tell me which of the following are HST and which Mallard:
on 3rd Jan 2012
09.30 from Edin to KX
12.01 from York to KX
on 5th Jan
13.45 from Peterb to Edin
or point me to where I can find the info pl
for short journeys from Edinburgh or other side trips I go standard. For what would be long journeys (>3hrs) then I fly. I have done some FC long trips and I have lowered my expectations so am less dissatisfied
Edit: Having just posted I saw my sig. and was reminded of the meals I used to enjoy...
a now rare but positive report from me:
travling on the 08.00 from Edinburgh, with FC single on the EC train. Late departure due to safety checks. Coffee served promptly. Full English Breakfast was good.
all in all, good but 35 minutes late into York (my destination)
I travelled back to Edinburgh by plane recently and discovered that I had a 'good' ticket. small cottage pie with bread roll and slightly chilled red wine were the reward. sufficient for such a short flight but more would have been needed for a longer train journey
