Adding reservation to booking on DB Bahn

I have bookings on a particular train from Brussels to Cologne through DB Bahn. When I booked because I choose tickets that meant I could only travel on that particular train it meant I had a seat reservation. This is not true and it appears the train is very popular how to I add a reservation...
