I've just come back from a few days in the Douro Valley in Portugal. Once thing I noticed that further up the line there were no signals. How are the trains regulated. There appeared to be a station master with flag/baton to signal to the train. Do they radio the next station to check the line...
I'm planning to travel from Porto to Pocinho. On the return back to Porto I'd like to get off at Freixo de Numao and get a later service back. Would I need a separate ticket or can I break my journey on a Pocinho to Porto ticket?

I'm thinking of buying an Explore South Wales Pass. This rover on weekdays is valid from 09:30 onwards. There is however an easement that allows travel on the Heart of Wales Line and West of Carmarthen at any time. Would using a Two Together railcard override this easement?
