From West Somerset Rly today for trains Friday 11 July 2025
Due to operational issues all planned daytime services for Friday 11th July 2025 are cancelled.
We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and a decision will be made regarding Friday evening services during the morning...
This loco after many years use at MQ and then latterly loaned by Aggregate Industries to the Dartmoor Rly until end of 2019, then in 2020/1 used for shunting and despatch by road the numerous items of stored rolling stock, was itself finally despatched ‘up country’ by low loader lorry on Fri...
The results for the some say rather puerile NR financed competition to name these now numerous, safety critical and costly RHT trains and MPVs was meant to be announced on 24 Oct.
These are trains that were once not needed, yet no one asks the question: Why do we need them now ?
?Has anyone...
Short notice alterations to the WSR advertised tourist services mean operation only between Minehead and Williton on 26 & 27 June and between Bishops Lydeard and Watchet on 2 & 3 July for surprisingly no publicly announced reason such as for Engineering etc works affecting the railway.
An...
Anyone who has visited the WSR this Summer will have noticed, particularly in most stations, weeds growing profusely in much of the main running line ( and sdgs) and the poor impression given of the standard of track maintenance.
Weedspraying seems belatedly to have been organised and carried...
This loco based on the WSR was moved on 29/6/23 by road back to Minehead as shown in a pic on a website but with no explanation as to why.
Anyone know why by road ?
Cross Country Trains Management and staff are to be congratulated on their producing, (for the new Timetable from 21/5 to 9/12/23) a very useful, handy and popular printed booklet of all their train services including a map showing their routes to help people realise the places they serve...
This happened this afternoon Mon 27/3/23 .
With two Exeter to Barnstaple and rtn and one Exeter to Okehampton and Rtn CANCELLED ‘due request from Police’
anyone know any more ?
mods note - split from here
Four former HST power cars wastefully and environmentally dubiously doing the work of ONE single loco,..madness.. yet the Govt. DfT can do nothing, unlike their short sightedly and costly instructions to GW and XC to withdraw HSTs prematurely.
There was a 1018 Spl from Margam to Exeter Rsde Yd today 30/12/22 ( loco rtnd LD) that conveyed about 5 empty freight liner bogie flats
Are they for stabling/storage or where are they going and for what purpose ?
On Google earth for some years there are showing on two long disused sidings lots of by the looks of things, long bogie wagons ..possibly in the past experimental wagons for carrying lorries or lorry trailers .
they have bushes and trees growing around them.
does anyone know if these wagons are...
Today's 1227 Plymouth to Edinburgh HST lost 70 minutes between Ivybridge and N.Abbot where it was terminated and eventually ran empty back to Plymouth at about 1600.
Does anyone know the details of this failure, which would have caused considerable disruption to hundreds of peoples travel plans ?
I have recently noticed Hundreds of Thousands or even millions, of new concrete sleepers stacked and stored by Network Rail in part of these yards.
Can anyone explain why so many new concrete sleepers are now stored .....prudent investment by NR ? or are they awaiting major track renewals on...
The first Down train (0523 Paddington - Swansea IET ) between Didcot and Swindon on Th 21/10/21 following an Engineers possession being given up, hit a PW trolley near Challow which seems to have been left on the line.
Very luckily a potentially very serious incident was avoided because the...
The overall service on this line since SWR took over has without a doubt deteriorated noticeably.
Whilst First Rail's SWR sister GWR ran at minimum an hourly service on almost all its routes during the plague, the Waterloo/Exeter main line west of Salisbury was treated for much of the year...
Of all the preserved/ Heritage lines in the UK the WSR is proving to be one of the most, if not, the most line in a serious and precarious state, with likely no trains til next Spring and even then possibly not over the whole line.
This despite valiant efforts by mainly elderly volunteers to...
This special charter passenger train was delayed for about two hours between Hellifield and Blackburn, finally arriving back at Euston at 0124 today Sun 3/3; almost three hours late.
Does anyone know the reasons please for this very late running etc ?
A visit on Fri 4 Oct found trains running up to an hour late, principally due to brake problems /failure of one of the three starring Panniers.
The attention to detail at many station, despite good garden and floral displays and general tidiness and numerous volunteers, was let down by weeds...
