Going into London on an Elizabeth line train I noticed that we were routed on a line in the Acton area referred to as the ADU line on Realtime Trains. Is this a new line?
Looking at Realtime Trains, I came across the 08.57 Hedon Rd Sidings to Tinsley SS on 16/10/20 and was puzzled to see it passing 2 Aldwarke Jns.
The first was at distance 56-33 (train mileage) followed by Thrybergh Jn at 57-09 followed by the 2nd at 57-65.
I recall the ex-Midland northbound...
I recently returned from a trip around China which involved 2 rail journeys. The first was on a HST from Beijing West to Xi'an North using what appears to have been a Chinese built Fuxing train. The second was on a classic (overnight) train from Xi'an to Shanghai (train no. Z94). Owing to tight...
I’m planning a day trip one Saturday soon from Cheltenham to the Manchester / Blackburn area to explore some lines that I haven’t been over or not been over for many years. The TfGM Wayfarer ticket seems to allow me to cover many of the north west lines that I’m interested in. Can that be bought...
This line was previously the Up Goods line but was upgraded for passenger use. It seems to be used for peak time services into Moorgate. Is it used, or intended to be used, by other services, eg. future Thameslink services?
I went on Buffer Puffer 15 and was discussing with others the charges that the operator incurred, in particular Network Rail's access charge. Does any member know what NR's rates are?
As an aside, on a tour such as this one, which involved numerous short/shortish sections right across...
I have booked to go on the Buffer Puffer 17 railtour on Saturday 29 July starting from Euston at 08.30. As I live in West Gloucestershire and will be travelling up the M4, where is the most convenient place to park to get the tube into the centre?
Since the early 1960s there has been a gradual reduction in the number of places served by through summer Friday night / Saturday holiday trains to Devon & Cornwall. From various old timetables & leaflets, I have produced the following incomplete list. I would welcome details of any errors or...
The Branch Line Society have advertised this tour around the Bristol area using a 3-car 158 for 14 May. The itinerary includes the St Philips Marsh line which hasn't been permitted for many years. Details are on their website if anyone is interested.
Does anyone know if there has been any analysis of passengers arriving in Newquay using the summer Saturday service from Dundee to determine where they started from? Apart from a few enthusiasts, I cant imagine that many travel all the way from Dundee.
Does anyone know when the last through train from Barnstaple to London ran? I have a 1982 timetable that shows a summer Saturday 08.25 ex-Barnstaple to Waterloo, arr 13.09 (there was no equivalent down service). After 1964 and the rundown of the old SR system west of Exeter, I believe it ran to...
I listened to part of the Jeremy Vine Radio 2 programme yesterday (4/5/15) on phasing out of the HSTs. Although there was no mention that some will be going to Scotland, someone contacted the programme to say that a number will be retained for services to the West Country. Can anyone advise if...
