I've just completed a long distance train journey which took in 6 different trains from 4 separate TOCs over 5 1/2 hours and not had my ticket checked a single time. Is this very common? Can anyone beat that in a single point to point journey?

Hello All I will be taking this service (1st class) from Cardiff to Crewe next week. Looks great on the website, can anyone tell me what the train, food and service are like? I change at Crewe onto a soon to be defunct Virgin train so it will be interesting to see the contrast.
