Interesting PWI presentation on the CLC Line of Route Upgrade (posted on You Tube on 28 November 2025 on the Permanent Way Institute (PWI) channel), which was recently concluded by a joint group involving Matt McDonald and WSP, which looked at all the options for upgrading the route between...
I'm sorry if this has been discussed previously, but, of course, when you try and search using the title you get hundreds of possible threads, none of which seem to fit the bill.
My question arises from a discussion I was having on a Facebook group, where it was asserted that a Eurostar e300...
Just watching a cab ride from Ashford to Tonbridge in Kent, a normal ex Southern 3rd rail electric route. One thing that struck me as a bit odd was that many of the bridges look like they have been rebuilt for electrification of the overhead variety. I have attached a photo of one. I presume...
Just watching a cab ride on YouTube, which finishes in the mountain town of Nesslau at the end of Suburban Line S2 from St Gallen. I was aware that recently the line had been refettled with new track and OHLE and some infrastructure work such as a few new bridges. As we were coming into...
A colleague in Austria has asked an interesting question. Apparently there when a light engine shunts across tracks, the loco displays white lights at both ends.
Am I correct in thinking that this doesn't happen in the UK, that the loco will always display white in the direction of travel and...
I subscribe to the photo feed of Mario Stefani, the Swiss Railway photographer. In today's feed of old slides he has scanned was this very British looking carriage (except for what looks a pantograph on the roof!) It appears to have a UIC no. of LKM10A 39 SIG X 60 85 99 93 110 2
Whilst working today I watched a Slovenian cab ride. It was an 1800 ore ton train, pulled by a pair of Taurus type locos along a single track main line with a line speed of 50 mph. Here are 3 photos from it of:
A level crossing - no barriers.
A station - platforms with barely any room to...
Does anyone on here have any idea as the purpose of these trips? Is it just to keep up route knowledge. Seen today it was just a Pacer with the driver on board.
Would anyone be so kind as to detail (times/days) the freight movements to and from Land Rover/Jaguar at Halewood, Ford car depot at Speke and the Freightliner depot at Garston, all in south Liverpool, including the types of haulage likely to be seen.
Many thanks
Dixie
I was out getting some exercise by the Land Rover factory in Halewood this morning when the Ford car train for Garston went by. It was being pulled by a Scotrail liveried class 90 followed by what looked like a dead in train class 92 (it could have been a class 60 I suppose, as I wasn't able to...
