New "Bike Hub" at Richmond station

Which bright spark decided to put it at the top of a set of stairs? I mean, seriously?? Apparently, the concerns of local cyclists to the design were just ignored - which appears to be par for the course when it comes to railway cycle infrastructure.

Should there be an aptitude test for voters?

mods note - split from here: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/reform-uk-discussion.285022/ Quite honestly it's high time we had people pass some form of aptitude test before they are allowed to vote.

Complete removal of Off Peak fares from the ECML

Got this in a email today. So no off peak fares at all, even on non-LNER services. So basically I'm travelling from Kent I'd be forced to buy an Anytime ticket? It's an absolute disgrace. How are they allowed to get away with it?????

    SWR App?

If you go into the app, and look up a train the in the live running section, at the top is a diagram that purports to show you how busy each individual carriage is. Does anyone know if this is based on actual live data, or is it too good to be true, and only based on some form of previously...

    The Naked Gun (2025 movie)

I had serious misgivings about this movie when I saw the first trailer. It looked awful, and a pale imitation of the originals with Leslie Neilson. I was lucky enough to attend the premier last night in Leicester Square, and actually it was really good - a lot better than I thought would be...

Can someone explain to me why there are absolutely zero Advance tickets between London and Chester???

Unless you change. Direct services are all walk-up tickets only. One of the worst things the government ever did to the railway was get rid of Virgin. I used to be able to travel first class on this journey, with a railcard, for thirty or forty pounds, now they want over a hundred!!

I'm becoming increasing frustrated by Southeastern's website

For the second time now I've a bought ticket, and only discovered while attempting to travel that it's for the wrong date, because it doesn't default to today's date when you go on there....as basic common sense would dictate. Got as far as Victoria yesterday. Guard checked the ticket on the...

Avanti kicking disabled pax out of their reserved seats so they can be taken by "celebs"....or at least people who think they are celebs

Just read the following on Twitter... https://x.com/matthew_drama/status/1928754692869197860 How does this comply with the National Rail Conditions of Travel (NRCoT) and the rights of passengers, exactly? Avanti need to be hauled over the coals for this.

How much Delay Repay was I actually entitled to?

Hi. Was on the 15:30 EDB to KGX yesterday, which arrive around 50 minutes late. This then made me miss my connection from St. Pancras to Sittingbourne, and then onto Kemsley, meaning I arrived home an hour later than I should have dome. I have LNER's one click delay repay activated, so they sent...

Cheaper fares on HS1 coming from April: could this lead to more services?

Apparently, the regulator has told HS1 to lower its charges for passenger and freight train operating companies from April 2025. https://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/news/savings-for-kent-passengers-as-high-speed-line-charges-for-318247/ SE seem to think it will enable them to run more...

What should be done to make the rail network more robust against severe weather.

Surely serious questions need to be asked about the resilience of the railway in any kind of out of the norm weather? We seem to be bumbling from one catastrophe to the next. This isn't a problem that's going to go away. With climate change it's only going to get worse.

    Threads (infamous TV drama)

Anyone watch this infamous piece of TV history this evening? Watched it for the first time tonight. Boy was it bleak. TBH it was just about what I expected, based on its reputation, and the little I know about the effects of a nuclear attack. I was 11 when it was broadcast the first time, so...

Why are station waiting rooms always locked up when people need them the most??

When is a waiting room most required? On a dark winter's evening when it's freezing cold. Only that's exactly the time when they are invariably found to be locked up! I find it infuriating when I've a long wait for a train and all I want is somewhere warm to sit and the waiting room isn't...

Why are the seat finder timetables on Southeastern's website so slooooooooow?

Honestly they're slower to show up than a tortoise frozen in ice. I just timed it and it took close to 30 seconds from clicking the link to the info showing up. And if you want another day or direction of travel you have to wait an eternity again! In this 2024 it's unacceptable for a basic...

How will the LNER strikes affect other services out of KGX?

At first I thought it wouldn't affect me, as I have no plans to travel with LNER until December, and I never travel with them at weekends anyway. However, I had planned to go bikepacking for a week doing the Rebellion Way, starting in King's Lynn on Saturday the 31st. I just realised this...

Travelling by Train This Week? Am I mad

Hi. I want to make an overnight trip to Ely. I have a voucher code for a 20% discount for a hotel. The voucher runs until some time in March, however the stay needs to be booked by the end of this month (ie Wednesday). I was thinking of booking this Thursday-Friday, as it's a good price, and the...

Why can't I buy an e-ticket/smartcard ticket from Kemsley to St Albans?

Just had a little overnight trip to St. Albans, but I was forced to buy a standard ticket from the TVM at the station, instead my preferred method of buying online and having the ticket in my possession before I get there. I noticed there are barcode readers on the barriers at St. Albans, so...

    Oppenheimer

Just got back from seeing this at the Odeon Leicester Square. Another tour de force by Christopher Nolan - I've seen quite a few of his movies. Cillian Murphy and the rest of the cast were excellent. Glad they kept it realistic by having the sound lag behind the images during the explosions...
