Want to get the forum experts' opinion on an issue I had yesterday, to see whether it's worth my while making a formal complaint to the TOC involved or Interrail, or whether it'll just end up causing me more grief: After travelling around Europe with my wife on Interrail passes with no issues...

It's possible I'm going mad, but if not, I'm wondering how this is possible. I was on a Manchester-Bournemouth train today (1O24 worked by 220026) and, seeing that it was only 4 cars, had reserved myself a seat from Coventry-Banbury (via the GWR website). However, when the (inevitably packed)...

Looks like Chiltern are (unsurprisingly) going to be running a reduced service on Thursday and are stating 'essential travel only.' Details from the National Rail site Nothing on the Chiltern Railways own website or social media yet. Wouldn't be surprised if other TOCs in the Amber warning...

I received the following e-mail from Chiltern Railways earlier today: The link to the survey is https://www.research.net/r/WMFXFWV (I've removed the referrer parameters so anyone else can fill it in if they want). It looks like Chiltern are planning to introduce seat reservations, presumably...

Hi all, I travel regularly on an A-B day return ticket valid via London, which is cheaper than an A-London ticket. The A-London leg is on Chiltern Railways. There are no Break of Journey restrictions. Ticket purchased as a TOD paper ticket via the forum site. I'm not going to give full details...

Sorry, couldn't think of a more concise thread title: On 15th April, I booked an Advance ticket (via the Forum site) for Monday 11th May for the 1441 Wolverhampton to Tywyn direct train, arriving 1725 Since then, engineering work has been announced on the Cambrian and this train now terminates...

There's an article from Rail Magazine stating that Chiltern have applied to run more London-Birmingham services from December 2026. However, the rest is paywalled so can't read the full details, and I can't find any equivalent press release on the Chiltern website or elsewhere. Does anyone...

Was just checking out tickets for a trip in a couple of weeks, and was very surprised to find that my proposed Leamington Spa-Crewe via Nuneaton trip required two tickets, despite it being a seemingly obvious route, in the right direction, with only a single easy change.. Looking at the...

Noticed this morning that, as of this week, Chiltern seems to have (re)introduced direct morning peak trains from Rowley Regis to Marylebone at 0650 and 0727, calling at Smethwick Galton Bridge and Snow Hill before picking up the usual path at Moor St. These are the 68-hauled trains which used...

Hi folks, A not-hypothetical situation, as this is a journey I plan to make, but I won't give the actual stations to avoid a potential 'loophole' being shut. My ticket is from A->B Permitted routes for this ticket are A->C->B and A->D->B (both are definitely permitted and will generate an...

Hi, Apologies if this has been asked before, I couldn't find it using a search of the forum. Is anyone able to confirm the definitive time restrictions on the Explore Cambrian Coast Day Ranger ticket? Different sources give different info about the time from which it is valid. On the TfW page...

Hi all, I know this should be in theory be an easy Google, but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer, especially from post-Elizabeth Line opening: I've got some friends visiting the UK for the first time, flying into Heathrow and staying near Paddington. I'm trying to give them appropriate...

I came across this post earlier from Paralympian and prominent rail accessibility advocate Tanni Grey-Thompson on X/Twitter: https://x.com/Tanni_GT/status/1761104471738741132?s=20 Follow-up posts suggests that it was the ticket office at Kings Cross (so presumably staffed by LNER) and she...

My photos from the Amersham Heritage Day Featuring the 1938 Stock, Sarah Siddons, and Class 20 20189 Some samples:

There were loads of delays at Waterloo this afternoon, which were explained as being a resut of an 'Operating Incident'. Anyone know what actually happened? (SWT are usually pretty good at advising the real reason for delays).

Back earlier this year, Shauna and I decided we would follow up last August’s ALR with another summer bash. Scotland was the chosen destination, as neither of us had much coverage there (in my case, none at all). The plan was to travel out and back by sleeper (on Bargain Berths) and to stay...

Photos from mine and Gizzy's trip to South Wales last week. WARNING - MAY CONTAIN PACERS! Full report from Wales and Scotland will follow soon.

Photos from mine and Gizzy's trip to Scotland A full report will appear in the Story forum in due course. Here's a couple of tasters:

Photos from today's 1938 Stock Tour on the East London Line are now up on my site. I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty more, given the number of RUK members that were either on or photting the tour.

Here we see the lesser spotted Gizmogle, erm... spotting! (Checking out which 460s she has left! Not going to find many at Wimbledon sadly).
