    Penalty fare, chance to appeal?

No. But we do need to see the date and time of issue, this is fundamental to the lawfulness of the penalty fare. Exactly which train were you on and when did it leave Birmingham New Street?

    Penalty fare, chance to appeal?

Please upload a copy of the penalty fare with your personal details redacted so we can see if the notice is compliant or not. That's the first thing we need to do.

    Caledonian Sleeper 'Business' Ticket

This fare was closed off and was only sold - AFAIK - to very large organisations which could produce volume sales to justify the large discount. Virgin had a similar "free upgrade" ticket which was flexible on the Anglo Scot route and a crazy good deal. If you work for a small or medium sized...

    Caledonian Sleeper 'Business' Ticket

We used to use this in my part of the civil service. They're not open to Joe Public AFAIK and only available through corporate bookers who have a contract with a large business.

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

Sorry, what "extrajudicial" proceedings would those be? Just so we are clear, extrajudicial means outside the court or justice system.

Delay repay compensation volume jumps 55% in a year

Do you think every penny of delay repay gets spent again on rail travel, yes or no?

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

It's implied here: And here: The concern here is surely that if you are ruled inadmissible the consequences would be less by using pre clearance. If you read those posts it does matter where you get rejected.

Delay repay compensation volume jumps 55% in a year

That just isn't how these things work. The introduction of DR15 was not tantamount to a fares cut, was never framed as one, and isn't one. Trains should run on time where possible. It would not affect the fare box at all, same as DR15 didn't increase revenue. Delay repay does not function in...

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

One case then, and nothing to do with being inadmissible for entry. Detained by ICE, not CBP, and the offence was some old court case still on file, not an immigration matter. I'm not defending it because it obviously stinks, but I'm separating it from the idea that if you are inadmissible to...

Do you travel first class on a walk up basis?

He's talking about the on train upgrades, not Advance fares. On train upgrades are not discounted.

Delay repay compensation volume jumps 55% in a year

None, really. It used to be the case that compensation was only paid out on this basis and even more than a decade ago it was trivial to do this owing to delay attribution codes.

Do you travel first class on a walk up basis?

I almost exclusively use advances for first class, but have occasionally used super off peak or off peak first class returns (the MML used to have some amazing ones back in the HST days). I have bought only one First Anytime before and that was to get on the very first IET off Bristol all those...

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

The whole "disappeared to Latin America or the other side of the country" is not happening at US airports. What you are describing there is people lifted off the street by ICE thugs who are already in the US unlawfully (and sometimes lawfully!!). We have dozens of people at any one time in...

    Wrong railcard prosecution letter

They cannot prosecute you for a crime here becuase they did not catch you in the act for all of the occasions other than the time you were penalty fared. They could sue you in court for the money owed but that's about it.

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

They aren't changing policies to go via Dublin, one thing's for sure. Aer Lingus is in the toilet. A few a decade?? You think UK Border Force improperly detain people less than once a year? That's Aer Lingus which has some of the lowest transatlantic occupancy rates of any European carrier...

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

It really isn't. You need to move in circles where you know some of these business travellers (most of the serious ones have Global Entry). I could find a few people to tell me they think there's a teapot orbiting the Earth if I had a message on a news site saying "hey email me if you want to...

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

But those are edge cases, and rare enough to make the news. The risk is not zero, but it is not going to make a commercial argument for preclearance.

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

People use their most convenient airport. They don't massively care about preclearance. Exactly. No offence but this is detached from reality. This isn't a defence of the current malign regime there but as a frequent traveller you just turn up and get admitted. I would read less news if I were...
