Do you travel first class on a walk up basis?

I almost exclusively use advances for first class, but have occasionally used super off peak or off peak first class returns (the MML used to have some amazing ones back in the HST days). I have bought only one First Anytime before and that was to get on the very first IET off Bristol all those...

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

The whole "disappeared to Latin America or the other side of the country" is not happening at US airports. What you are describing there is people lifted off the street by ICE thugs who are already in the US unlawfully (and sometimes lawfully!!). We have dozens of people at any one time in...

    Wrong railcard prosecution letter

They cannot prosecute you for a crime here becuase they did not catch you in the act for all of the occasions other than the time you were penalty fared. They could sue you in court for the money owed but that's about it.

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

They aren't changing policies to go via Dublin, one thing's for sure. Aer Lingus is in the toilet. A few a decade?? You think UK Border Force improperly detain people less than once a year? That's Aer Lingus which has some of the lowest transatlantic occupancy rates of any European carrier...

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

It really isn't. You need to move in circles where you know some of these business travellers (most of the serious ones have Global Entry). I could find a few people to tell me they think there's a teapot orbiting the Earth if I had a message on a news site saying "hey email me if you want to...

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

But those are edge cases, and rare enough to make the news. The risk is not zero, but it is not going to make a commercial argument for preclearance.

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

People use their most convenient airport. They don't massively care about preclearance. Exactly. No offence but this is detached from reality. This isn't a defence of the current malign regime there but as a frequent traveller you just turn up and get admitted. I would read less news if I were...

No it doesn't. The OP retains full appeal rights.

Edinburgh Airport announces £500million investment plan

Convenient ones yes. The nearest ones, yes. You're telling me they won't spend two extra hours to avoid CBP? I think the value of preclearance is really overstated by many. Did Dublin turn into a hub so everyone could save maybe or maybe not standing in a line at JFK or the like? No.

Londonnorthwestern introduce Standard Plus on longer distance journeys

No they don't necessarily. Some wheelchair users transfer to a seat.

Londonnorthwestern introduce Standard Plus on longer distance journeys

It seems improbable but not impossible that multiple train companies would err in a way which doesn't meet the regulations. Here's an Class 390 derogation around wheelchair spaces for example. There may be more. (Edit: this one appears to have timed out in 2012)...

    Penalty Fare help

Your name is whatever you are commonly known as. My full legal name is not the same as the name I use in public settings, but either is an acceptable response to a demand for "my name" If you are Nicola Smith on your passport and you give your name as Nicky Smith (which is what everyone calls...

Londonnorthwestern introduce Standard Plus on longer distance journeys

The position of the industry is that First class is a class of travel. Standard plus is not. That is why "Standard premium" on Avanti is just an upgrade on top of Standard class. From RVAR: Wheelchair spaces (numbers required) https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/432/schedule/1...
  14. AlterEgo

Londonnorthwestern introduce Standard Plus on longer distance journeys

Nothing. There's no difference. The key date for RVAR compliance is 1st January 1999. The 350s don't have "grandfather rights". Nor do many of the trains listed in @VT 390's earlier post. What people are missing though is that this isn't a separate class of travel. As long as you don't charge...

Londonnorthwestern introduce Standard Plus on longer distance journeys

Both the 350s and 730s were specced with first class areas with no wheelchair space, which is lawful.

Londonnorthwestern introduce Standard Plus on longer distance journeys

Allegedly so, although I'm not sure of the truth of it. A perverse and unintended outcome of the law, though, if that is true.

Londonnorthwestern introduce Standard Plus on longer distance journeys

I will use this if it's competitively priced, and if it is enforced, and it's a 730. If any of those are not present I won't bother.

What would they be enforcing here? No driver should be getting blinded by *brake lights*.

Antisocial behaviour on buses: Have we given up?

This is exactly what will happen. No way you're going to get a 17 year old roadman who might be carrying a knife charged a £100 fine for blasting their music on a bus.
