Problems booking Leeds-Scarborough tickets and selecting seats

That sounds plausible, we'll see if the tickets become available tomorrow (interestingly it was only the outbound tickets which went up in price not the returns). That's if Transpennine ever pull their finger out and E mail me my password reset ! ? ! Incidentally, does anyone know if it's...

Problems booking Leeds-Scarborough tickets and selecting seats

I was to trying book a couple of tickets from Leeds to Scarborough with Transpennine, I couldn`t remember my password (or even if I had a password ! ? ! ), whilst waiting for an E mail [which never came] with my password reset, the price went up ! In just 5 minutes ! ! That seemed a bit dodgey...

How to get to a NW rover area from Sheffield ? ! ?

I'm remembering why it's 12 years since I've been on a NW Rover ! Basically if you have to come back to Sheff via Leeds (or Huddersfield) every day that severely limits which routes you can take. There aren't many trains from Leeds to Lancaster, or for that matter up the S&C, and they take...

How to get to a NW rover area from Sheffield ? ! ?

Thanks for that. You`re right about Huddersfield giving access to both Leeds and Manchester, the only problem being that the journey from H/F to Sheff stops at every station and takes an absolute age ! Does anyone know if there`s a weekly season ticket available still (because I`m getting a...

How to get to a NW rover area from Sheffield ? ! ?

I`m thinking of getting a NW railrover on June, the problem is I live in Sheffield ! Does anyone know the cheapest way to get to the NW rover area from Sheff, preferably giving me a bit of flexibility ? I thought about getting another railrover at the same time, either a NE or a Coasts and...

Cheapest way to book 1st class advance tickets Sheffield to Aberdeen ?

Thanks for all your help guys. I`ll try to go by train (I`d rather do so anyway) booking the tickets as they become available, you said 12 weeks didn`t you ? So they don`t give you any discount for booking a return, how things have changed, I thought it used to be nearly as cheap to get a...

Cheapest way to book 1st class advance tickets Sheffield to Aberdeen ?

Should I book the outbound single as soon as it becomes available, or book the whole journey (i.e. when the return journey becomes available) ? The problem being, of course, that once you've booked the outbound journey you're committed to going by train so have to pay whatever they want to...

Cheapest way to book 1st class advance tickets Sheffield to Aberdeen ?

The quota must indeed be limited, very limited. I was clicking around for dates 10 to 12 weeks in advance and there weren`t that many "cheap" (if £80 each e/w is cheap......) First class fares for any services. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- If I can get the tickets for £160...

Cheapest way to book 1st class advance tickets Sheffield to Aberdeen ?

I really would rather go by train, but, particularly as I`m travelling with the wife (not overly keen on trains, esp if there are any noisy kids or personal stereos within earshot.....), plus it`s 6 or 7 hours, so I reckon we`d have to go First class. However, I`m not prepared to pay some of...

Cheapest way to book 1st class advance tickets Sheffield to Aberdeen ?

£38 e/w is very reasonable, but I put the 17th May into East Coast`s website and the cheapest First class tickets it came up with was £478 (= £239 each) ! That was for the 14.21 from Sheff, it was the only service that they`d quote on for a "cheap" ticket. What am I doing wrong ? ! ?

Cheapest way to book 1st class advance tickets Sheffield to Aberdeen ?

Does anyone know their way round the vagaries of the online booking sites for tickets from Sheffield to Aberdeen ? In July we're going to Fair Isle via Shetland and Aberdeen, as the first leg is obviously a long train journey to Aberdeen, we'd much rather go First class. The thing is some of...

    Preserved railways : passenger statistics

I don't think it's pointless Jimmy ! ! ! Even if the railways don`t use exactly the same definition it`s still a good indication of their visitors. As you add any requested data, could you add it to the main list ? That`s what I do with my pet project as and when I get any new info (British...

    Preserved railways : passenger statistics

Well done Jimmy, now for this, I`ve found an interesting snippet (from RWM March 1962), the Ravenglass & Eskdale achieved 75,000 passenger journeys in 1961, I wonder what it is now ? ! ?

    Preserved railways : passenger statistics

Good work Jimmy. Is the NRM 8 million or 800,000 ? As I'm reading through my back issues of Railway Magazine if I come across any figures from the 1960s I'll put them on here, they'd make interesting comparisons

    Stations reopened since 1999

A couple of years I put on a thread asking if anyone knew which stations had reopened since 1999, it was in an effort to keep my Cobbs rail atlas up to date. The info below was kindly posted. Does anyone know about stations opened in the last two years so it can be added to the list below...

    Preserved railways : passenger statistics

I'd be interested in all of them, for reference sake, and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one interested in them ! Could you put them on here, or is that too big a job ? Or could you scan it and E Mail it to me ? I'm currently reading back through my collection of Railway Magazines* (1962 at...

    Preserved railways : passenger statistics

If there really isn't a site with the passenger figures I could put some of them on here, but it'd be a work in progress, taking some time, and I'd want to update it each year, which might be difficult as this Forum "locks" the thread after so long !

    Preserved railways : passenger statistics

I know that the Railway Magazine often quotes passenger figures for various preserved railways, so they must be getting the info from somewhere !
