    Guess the Station...

Harlech A clue note- the rails of the furthest track was rusty so may be have been taken when the line north of Harlech was closed during the recent bridgeworks. The condition of some of the sleepers was a clue it was on a branch line. See second photograph of this page of this link...

Do preserved lines actually want articles written about them or not???

I work on one of the smaller heritage railways with all volunteer staff and can see this discussion from both sides. Our railway does have press officers who supplies photos, articles and long conversations for publications as articles in magazines however they are "known" established contacts...

    Southern Heights Light Railway (proposed)

I do not know if there was a planned station called Westerham Hill. I do not know if there was any freight traffic planned to use the line. It would have been steeply graded as the area is "undulating" . --- old post above --- --- new post below --- The only route I have...

    Southern Heights Light Railway (proposed)

I am trying to research information on the proposed Southern Heights Light Railway which was planned to be built in 1930s around the outer suburbs of South East London. Its planned route was Sanderstead to Orpington with stations at Chelsham, Tatsfield, Cudham, Downe and Green Street Green. It...

    Redhill station faults

At Redhill I have often waited for long periods for trains there including adjourning to the nearby pub "Home Cottage". I have complained several times to the station staff at Redhill about failure to hold connections particularly along the Tonbridge route which has hourly off peak services...

    Guess the Station...

To help us a little can you confirm the following..? We can rule out Wales otherwise the sign will also be in Welsh. It looks like limestone bricks which were used in the construction of stations in the west country stretching from anywhere south west of a line from a line vaguely...

Strangest thing you've heard/seen on the rail network...

Several years ago when working as a booking clerk on a quiet day at a heritage railway station- ... With the Station Master I watched the 1330hrs train depart on time and steam away out of sight in the distance. I returned to the ticket office and was just enjoying a freshly made cup of tea...

Help finding directions to Scottish Signal Boxes

I suspect that for security reasons the location or access to signal boxes is not divulged openly on web sites such as this. Postcodes are not necessary as ordinary postal deliveries are not made to them. Mail for them is either collected by signalman from a station with a postal address or...

Do trains have a timetabled departure of 00:00?

When I first worked for BR in the 1960s the last train left Victoria to Brighton with portions for Eastbourne and Hastings at midnight (0000hrs) and was in the public timetable for many years until after much confusion it was changed to 2359 public time (0000 working timetable time). The...
