Garages/outstations that closed and reopened on the same site

Swanley. Was a London Country garage. Then it closed but was reopened when they won the contract for the 51. Now still in use by Go Coach Hire I think.

    Stagecoach West/South West/South Wales - Fleet News & Discussion

I'm pleased that my suggestion of the 1 lived up to expectations. The Fochriw section is quite dramatic and I think you did it in the right direction. I agree with you on the 21 and I think the double run into Swffryd is good with dramatic views across the valley. I also agree that Stagecoach...

Bus Services from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Alnwick & Berwick

Yes it does. Hourly from Berwick to Belford. From Belford to Alnwick the X18s via the coast takes an hour longer than the X15.

Bus Services from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Alnwick & Berwick

That seems a good plan. If you are going to take the X18 from Alnwick to Berwick then you will leave Alnwick on an even hour (10.00 or 12.00). So to arrive on an X15 and have a break (a good idea) you’ll be there an hour earlier. That means leaving Newcastle at 7.23 or 9.38. As it happens the...

[Trivia] Long abandoned bus stations still standing

Reading bus station has only recently been demolished having been unused and unloved for a long time- at least 20 years.

    Stagecoach West/South West/South Wales - Fleet News & Discussion

I don’t know where you’ll find the bread vans but I would be looking to avoid them! As well as the 172 between Aberdare and Maerdy an underrated scenic stretch is the 1 from Bargoed to Rhymney Bridge especially in this direction. Or go further afield from Merthyr to Brecon to Abergavenny. Won’t...

Bus Services from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Alnwick & Berwick

Everything online shows the 418 does run. Appears to run 2 hourly between the X18s and connects at Belford with the X15 to Berwick. But the X18 will be better for the views. Look out for the wonderful basic turning point in Craster! A long journey on the X18 especially though, about 4 hours end...

Bus Services from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Alnwick & Berwick

Actually ignore what I said about Alnmouth. Arriva have abandoned the village centre, only the 418 goes round there between Alnwick and Craster. The X18 goes close to the village, but not the centre, between Alnwick and Amble. The X15 and X18 link up again at Belford and run hourly from there...

Bus Services from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Alnwick & Berwick

The X18 is every two hours now but I think was only every four hours in the winter. There is a 418 every two hours as well roughly paralleling the X18 from Alnwick to Alnmouth (not on X18), Craster and Bamburgh as far as Belford, run by Travelsure.

Bus Services from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Alnwick & Berwick

X15 runs Newcastle, Morpeth, Alnwick, Berwick roughly tracking the Great North Road. Hourly to Alnwick, two hourly on to Berwick. X18 runs to Morpeth then out to the coast and through Amble to Alnwick. Then up via the really scenic coast through Craster and Bamburgh to Berwick. Hourly to...

Buses Excetera (Surrey) reported to have ceased trading

Surrey County Council website this morning says Arriva are taking it over from tomorrow (Saturday) to the existing timetable. No word on whether any subsidy is involved. Nothing on Arriva website yet.

Websites and apps that have a bus tracker that shows the reg number or fleet number of the vehicles.

I have to say that this is brilliant. I don't know how it is being funded but it is so good - please keep expanding it. I am please to see it keeps adding bits. It looks like Arriva in Southend and Colchester and Ensign have been added today. East Anglia is virtually complete apart from First...

    Stagecoach Group (Group-wide matters)

I was going to point out the same thing about South West's previous year accounts. I haven't been through everything, or even close, but interesting to compare matters between different Stagecoach company accounts as they are all prepared on a similar and consistent basis. A comparison between...

    TrawsCambria / TrawsCymru

Powys seem to have made some recent improvements to the X47 and X75 which mean they could form a useful part of the TrawsCymru network. The X75 (barely changed) is two hourly from Shrewsbury through Welshpool, Newtown and Llanidloes to Llangurig. The X47 runs two hourly from Aberystwyth to...

    White Knuckle Bus Ride

My favourite 'white knuckle' ride from the past was from Stevenage to Biggleswade on a Charles Cook Metropolitan, I guess in the late 80s or early 90s. I don't believe the route had a number but was quite long standing and, as I recall, always run with double deckers. I think it was a Saturday...

    TrawsCambria / TrawsCymru

Yes, X14 really good run. Talgarth is a pleasant place, no issue changing there. Mind you the main stop was called 'Natwest' (and still is) - but no sign of a Natwest (or any bank)!

    TrawsCambria / TrawsCymru

Interesting trip out last Friday - not all relevant to this thread but I'm keen to post it somewhere. Express motors Caernarfon

Sort of relevant to this thread as it is an old Express Motors service.... Express Motors used to run the 1B between Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog as a through service with the 1/1A between Porthmadog and Caernarfon making it possible to run an hourly service. When they folded the 1B was...

Norfolk Green (Now Stagecoach Norfolk) to be binned

The lady who boarded with me at Reepham was not a regular passenger, she had rung Sanders the day before to check the times. But as for everyone else who got on I didn't hear any expressions of surprise so I would guess it was normal or at least not uncommon to use such a coach. It had 3+2...

Norfolk Green (Now Stagecoach Norfolk) to be binned

I had a great trip up here yesterday, mainly on Sanders Coaches, starting and finishing in the obscure but delightful village of Reepham. Route: 09.15 98 Reepham to Fakenham (Thursdays only) 10.33 29 (Stagecoach) Fakenham to Wells next the Sea 12.05 Coasthopper (Stagecoach) Wells next the Sea...
