Britain's busiest commuter routes wholly outside London

Stockport to Manchester must be up there. Or maybe Radyr to Cardiff.

Finally got round to this. Must go to Lincolnshire some time!

Feasibitity study into improving Manchester Piccadilly railway station.

Isn't much of the freight through Piccadilly diesel hauled Freightliners from Trafford Park to points south? If so, send them via Northwich/Middlewich/Sandbach to hit the WCML, and Robert Gascoyne Cecil's your uncle...

    Favourite Novels (and non-fiction)

Can't argue with that list (not read Robert Jordan, must look him out). I'd put Reaper Man top of the table for Pratchett, though! I agree in particular with "The Redemption of Althalus" being top notch - must read it again...

    Favourite Novels (and non-fiction)

Where to start... Authors - John Grisham is excellent, as is Robert Goddard. Kathy Reichs' "Bones" series are excellent - however "Virals" and its sequels are garbage. Val McDermid is good, as are Ian Rankin and Peter Lovesey. Oh, and Iain Banks. I also confess a liking for Jilly Cooper...

    Manchester Metrolink master thread

The single M500 was 3038 and the T68 was Firebrand (1012 - which always turns up whenever I've used the metro!)

    Red Pen 2013

Shooting ducks in a barrel today! An appointment in Bury at 1.30 and nothing else vital to do all day meant a metrolink nedding session which scooped in 3005/09/15/25/30/33/38/47/50/54. And Eccles Wetherpoons for those that way inclined.

    Manchester Metrolink master thread

I sampled 2003 earlier on the Alty service. Most amusing on the way home to Rochdale. Normally, if a tram and train set off simultaneously from Victoria up the hill, the tram shows a clean pair of heels. However, tonight's drag race included 43013/062 on the high speed track recording thingy...

Chesterfield to Southport return on Saturday Jul 20th

You could save a further 20p by using a Manchester Wayfarer ticket (£11) and a CDR Parbold-Southport for the bit beyond Grindleford. Or, if there's a decent bus service Chesterfield to Matlock, you might save a.bit more by using the TransPeak bus.

    Loneliest place on the network

I may be doing it an injustice, as I only passed through rather than visiting, but Battlesbridge on the Southminster branch seemed a tad remote.
