    Historical 166 diagrams

When I commuted on the GWML around 2008-2011 it was a bit of a random unit generator.

Life after the end of "lockdown" 2.0

There will be no lockdown extension. For starters, after the events of this week Boris is trying to repair relationships with his backbenchers. There are now 50 of them in the anti lockdown group. I wouldn't say an article in the Guardian is to soften people up. Guardian readers don't need...

Life after the end of "lockdown" 2.0

Don't forget the "Independent Sage" who are self appointed misfits deemed too extreme even for this government. Yet the press seem to think that their every word is gospel. For some reason the public think that every word uttered by a scientist is to be hung onto. I come from a scientific...

Life after the end of "lockdown" 2.0

You have to remember that the SAGE lot are scientists. Academics. Never before have they had this sort of public exposure, and they seem to be lapping it up. But what's been in the news the past week or so. Dominic Cummings and Donald Trump. So therefore no one's been taking any notice of the...

    Supermarkets and Covid-19

It's all hype generated by the supermarkets themselves. Let's face it, I doubt there will be huge Xmas gatherings and 15 round the dinner table this year. So why are people claiming that Christmas will be ruined because they can't get a 2 ton Turkey (Daily Mail comments) Has the UK ever run out...

    Coronavirus testing

The judges have their scores. Coronavirus: Positive. I'd like to take this opportunity to deny any link between myself and Katya Jones.

    Coronavirus testing

Afternoon all, Having been convinced I had a cold, not so sure now. Still awaiting the results of a Covid test, getting frustrated now. I'm no longer feeling ill as such, just utterly exhausted. More so than I have ever been before. The breathlessness is a toil as well. I tried to do a bit of...

    GWR Class 143 withdrawals

Is there a certain amount of "use them while we can" effectively saving maintenance on the rest of the fleet?

    Class 317 withdrawals.

I'm not really familiar with the ins and outs of the Anglia region, but would it be possible to reintroduce the 317s from store to allow the 360s all to go to EMR? I know there are PRM issues with those stored 317s, but would that be insurmountable?

    COVID 19 Good News Stories

It is indeed. However it needs 2 doses, so enough for 15 million people. However we have also ordered a fair few million doses of the Oxford one as well.

    COVID 19 Good News Stories

Well done to them. This is a better result than anyone could have hoped for, bearing in mind that only a couple of weeks ago the doom and gloom merchants were saying the best we could hope for was one that may reduce symptoms.

    Coronavirus testing

A week in to my flu like illness my sense of smell has gone. Ordered a test, and the household is now isolating pending the result. I still think it's flu, every time I get something like this the sense of smell goes, but now I have one of the big 3 symptoms I have to follow the rules.

The music video for Small-town Boy by Bronski Beat. External shots show a 1st gen DMU leaving Paddington, the interior is a Cl 317 out of Liverpool Street.

    starting a train company

Looking at the existing and former TOCs, they all seem to come from the world of bus operators or overseas rail operations. I can't think of any exceptions, therefore is it actually a prerequisite? There are none from the airline industry I can think of, nor the sort of facilities management...

Long term restrictions, lockdowns, etc and the implications on mental health

I think I'm starting to form a coping strategy: 1. The government Covid dashboard is off limits. 2. As are the news websites for a lot of the time. I'm allowing myself a couple of Covid check ins a day. The US election on the other hand is compelling and I'm looking at that rather a lot. 3...

How does reduced ticket office opening hours protect staff and customers?

Surely ticket offices had plexiglass screens between staff and passengers before it became fashionable.

Long term restrictions, lockdowns, etc and the implications on mental health

I guess then it's the usual what did Boris say/what is the actual law conundrum and which one will plod try to enforce. Whatever it is it doesn't help.
