Churnet Valley Railway Discussion - Dining, Dress codes, Dogs et al

I want to go to places where their focus of the staff is on doing their job, and where the rest of the clientele are focused on enjoying the experience, rather than judging whose smart casual wear is smart enough. I don't want to go to a golf club from a 1970s sitcom.

Churnet Valley Railway Discussion - Dining, Dress codes, Dogs et al

I don't mind places having a dress code, so long as it is well publicised. I can then actively avoid using them, even when I pass their dress code.

Tax policies in the run up to the General Election

The nice thing about a Land Tax https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_value_tax is that you can't offshore land. It would make getting planning permission a lot more contentious.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Lipton packets of tea are particularly horrid. I don't know if its that there isn't enough tea in the packet, or if its just house dust, but no tea flavour comes out.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

A charity shop is a business. It only helps the charity when it makes a profit. They will leave the door open, because it means they get more business and sell more stuff. "air curtains" above a door direct the air flow from above the door to reduce the mixing of cold air from outside.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

If you put the same heater at the back of the shop, then it would be cold near the door and warm at the back of the shop. We notice changes in temperature, more than the absolute temperature, so it feels less comfortable to have hot and cold spots. People coming into the shop will notice that...

    Southern DaySave afternoon restrictions

I don't think it does. You would be on a train that leaves Bognor Regis. It then goes on to leave East Croydon, but not when you are on it.

St Pancras to Rotterdam by Eurostar and Immigration checks on Return

Last year I got the Eurostar from Rotterdam, and passport checks were done at Brussels by getting everyone off the train. I think this was because of staff shortages.

What should passengers do if the ticket machine at their origin station has failed?

If you buy tickets with an app and get an error message, how long do you wait to see if it really went through? A couple of weeks ago, I tried to buy some tickets with the Greater Anglia app 10 minutes before the train left. I got an error message from the app about the payment failing. I put...

Premium car features you would pay extra NOT to have

Its useful as a compromise when a car is shared, and one person wants an automatic, and the other wants to control when the car changes gear. It doesn't cost much to add as a feature, and is fairly unobtrusive if you want a full automatic.
